Favorite Moment from Your Team?

Just was thinking about the Miami Dolphins, who are my favorite team, that I've been watching for nearly forty years. The first time I knew of their existence was watching the 1982 AFC Championship game, where they beat the New York Jets 14-0 in a driving rainstorm. It was love, and hate, at first site.

That led me to thinking about my favorite Dolphins game/highlight during my time as a fan.

It is sad that my favorite moment is from 1985. That year, the Chicago Bears were 13-0 heading into the Orange Bowl to take on the Dolphins. Miami ends up shocking Chicago, 38-24. And the game was never that close.

NFL- Has to be when my Patriots came back from a 28-3 deficit to win Super Bowl LI.
IndyCar- When Penske Racing outsmarted everyone with the Mercedes 109 engine in the '94 Indy 500.

NFL - Super Bowl XXIX - 49ers vs Chargers - That was the game Steve Young solidified his Hall of Fame Career.

NHL - Sharks/Pens game 3 of the 2016 Stanley Cup Final. I was there and it is my favorite sports experience ever

MLB - Giants winning the 2010 world series. 2012 and 2014 were bonus, but I actually cried when the final out was recorded.

NBA - The Warriors 2015 title. That was an amazing team. Ever since I've kind of fell out of favor of the NBA.

My favorite Yankees moment is Mo blowing the save in 2000.

In reality, David Cone's perfect game was truly something to watch.

Hands down my favorite is the final out of the 2004 World Series

A very close second would be the forlorn look on the faces of all the Yankees fans in Yankee Stadium when it became all too apparent that they were going to lose game 7 of the 2004 ALCS, after leading the series 3-0. Those looks of sadness, despair, and disbelief are still delicious 15 years later.

Honorable mention is A-Fraud getting caught slapping the ball out of Bronson Arroyo's glove in a punk ass schoolyard move and then acting like "what did I do?"

So, it was the start of the 1988 football season and the Seattle Seahawks were playing the Denver Broncos in Denver. Quarterback Dave Krieg threw a pass to wide receiver Steve Largent. Denver player Mike Hardin, in tackling Steve Largent, led with his forearm and knocked Largent out of the game and nearly out of the season with a concussion.
Fourteen weeks later, Denver met Seattle in the Kingdome.
Seattle was marching down the field in Denver territory when Dave Krieg threw a pass that was intercepted by Mike Hardin. Mike Hardin began running up the field, when, from out of nowhere, comes Steve Largent, who slams full tilt into Hardin, forcing a fumble, which Largent recovered.
Seattle went on to win the game 42-14 and the division.

Celtics, 2008, championship game 4. I was at a concert at Paradise Rock Club that day so I missed most of the game. On the way out I saw TV screens in a bar I walked past and they were down 30.

So I went home thinking they’d lose. Turned on the TV and they were ahead with the game about to end. That is the moment it felt real the Celts were going to win their first championship since I was 3.

1985 NBA Finals - Lakers at Celtics.

Lakers beat Boston in game six to beat Boston for the first time for a championship. It was also the first time Celtics had lost a championship at home. The Lakers had lost the previous championship to the Celts in 1984 and oh did Kevin McHale and Cornbread Mawell talk shit. There was bad blood between the teams.

This was the series in which the Lakers were blown out in game one in Boston and everyone said Kareem was old and over the hill. It was the game that led to Pat Riley's famous speech to the team in which he told them that sometimes you have "step up", which was the first time that phrase was used. Game one came to be known as "The Valentine's Day Massacre.".

Kareem came roaring back to lead the Lakers to a win in game 2. And finally, in game 6 in Boston, a game the Celts had always won before, Magic and Kareem gave the Lakers the franchises' first win over the Celts for a championship. To this day, Kareem still refers to it as his favorite championship.

As a long long time Lakers' fan (even back then), one who had personally witnessed two horrific losses to the Celtics in the Finals, 1985 was the biggest monkey of all time being lifted from my back and the backs of Lakers fans all over the world.

Baseball - Mets - the first game back from 9/11. I was in attendance and the Braves were beating us 2 to 1. Than Mike Piazza step up to the plate with one on in the bottom of the eighth.

Up until he stepped in, the mood was very somber. Atlanta seemed on a roll, with all the weight of the city and the world upon the Mets. I was a huge Mike Piazza fan before this at bat but I became evermore so after.

The collective release of all the pent up emotions was palpable. The crowd was so loud it was deafening. It’s still my all time sports moment.

Football - The New York football Giants - Super Bowl where they played the 16-0 Patriots. The Giants were the Wildcard that year with a 10-6 record, basically backing into the playoffs. They had an incredible run through the playoffs but were meeting a juggernaut of a team. I believe the Giants were 12 point underdog and played a great game to make the Patriots 16-1.

I have a second Giants moment, but it was an entire season. It's the 1986/87 season for the Giants. I'm working at Meadowland Mazda as a records clerk, so I have access to goto almost every Giants home game that year. Phil Simms had a hell of a year, a record year. I went to Air Force basic training in January of 1987 and the Giants made it to the Superbowl and won over Denver. They announced it over the dorm loud speaker and I got to celebrate in silence because we were supposed to be asleep.
