And just to put the whole Evil Studio vs Noble Director thing in perspective, it was Trank who wanted the villain to be a hacker called Victor Domashev, it was Studio mandated reshoots and ADR that turned him back into Victor Von Doom. (Now they still got the character completely wrong but at least they tried.)

Just like what happened with Shredder in the last TMNT.
On the flip side, I've seen a lot of reviews mock the name and they generally agree that the film is better in its more grounded first half (presumably less interfered with) than the generic action of the second half.
I'm not arguing that would've saved the film but just playing devil's advocate.

To compare and unadjusted for inflation - Green Lantern made $4.1 million and opened at midnight... (FF opened at 8pm).

OMG!? That was tiny Ethan Hawke in Explorers? I thought my first impression of that boy, which was instant hate by the way, was from Reality Bites.
Doesn't any one think it odd that Homer Simpson (Dan Castellaneta.) can just randomly be in anything for close to scale, when he is arguably the greatest actor of the last 3 generations?

But you should be earning more. 
I'm sure the director's drug/behavioral problems didn't help at all.
Drugs did wonders for The West Wing, and you could tell the instant that Drugs left the building.
The only reason I can see for the inclusion of Ben in the exploration team is that Ben and Reed were lovers. Going back to the 60s, there was no reason for the inclusion of Sue and Johnny as Astronauts other than a domino effect of "They'll be lost without me, so they might as well die with me."

I was thisclose to giving it a pass as I watched because there were a few things I think they got right:
-Reed and Ben's friendship. I think that was pulled off nicely.
-The Baxter Building. See? It can actually look like it does in the comics instead of like a skyscraper with Hogwarts stuck on top.
-Nice little shout out to Central City.
So the F is for FREAKIN' DOOM! THE HELL???? I know we were warned, but I've never seen a movie get a character that wrong in my life!
So F! F all day long! F until somebody out there manages to film my favorite heroes right!

For a second I thought Doom was going to bring a out a joint form his breast pocket when he asked everyone if they wanted to get wasted.
Is there a 15 year age gap between Reed and Sue?

Yes! Yes! That was ####ed up!
I blinked and missed the hard rentry that flooded the command and control room with mutagen rays, but that was a ridiculously weird decision to leave her out of the exploratory mission.
"Yeah, let's not take Victor's exgirlfriend, or the woman I am having feelings for, who is the same person, who is more importantly an accomplished engineer and a founding member of this project, but instead lets booty call my friend from highschool who is still in high school to be our fourth because he's a really cool guy. Yeah, cool."
