Ezri goes back in time to when Jadzia is alive. Doctor Bashir switches the Dax symbionts. Ezri returns to her own time.

When was Jadzia whiny and annoying? Boring and not particularly useful to the storyline, okay. DS9 never really did figure out how to make good use of a Trill character interesting, which is weird, considering the immense potential of having a character who is controlled by a weird little slug and has the memories and wisdom and emotional baggage of several lifetimes. Written correctly, Dax should have been stealing every scene and taking over the whole series.
I didn't say Jadzia was whiny, just that Ezri was more interesting. Because, as you pointed out, Jadzia's just bland and boring. The actress couldn't figure out a way to play "serene and cerebral" and still be interesting the way Russ, Nimoy, and others playing Vulcans often could.
Surely the solution would be just shoot Ezri, so the symbiont would just have to get another host on its return.
Aside from that, it wouldn't be any different to any other character travelling in time and meeting/avoiding themselves.
Wasn't there some murmouring about Famke Janssen being asked to be on DS9 during the series' inception? I don't know if she would have been a Trill, or just whatever species she was in her TNG episode. The point I'm badly hinting at is she might have been amazing as Dax.

if you say so. I saw her as more the "detached scientist" type, especially early DS9-Jadzia.
At what point was she ever detached? Her emotions ran hot all the time. She gambled with the Ferengi. She went on adventures with Kor and Koloth. She slept around with a variety of people. She hosted crazy parties in her quarters. She was regularly described as being overly emotional and impulsive.

I found myself wishing we had Ezri sooner rather than later as I watched season 7.
Masturbation would take a whole new level of meaning.
