Falling Skies Season 4 discussion thread - Spoilers

I don't think Tom said that he was present or alive at the original speech, and he could have heard a recording of JFK's speech or just read it. People quote from speeches all the time and they often abbreviate the quote to the pertinent part. I don't have a problem with that, really. I don't have a problem with them using an Esphenie ship to fly to the moon and blow up whatever the macgullin is. After all, they have access to Volm pilots and this is SF. The whole Lexi plot bugs me, though. Totally unnecessary and just plain soap opera with her accelerated growth which seems to have miraculously stopped. And who didn't see the kid's betrayal coming a mile away?

He gives the impression that it had a great impact on him. Something you don't get much from watching a recording of something that happened before you were born.

I think he is just used to making Rah! Rah! speeches by now and can use his historical knowledge to pull out whatever he needs at the time to get his audience to buy into his plan. I wasn't that excited by JFK's speech at the time. I mean, who really thought we'd make it to the moon at the time. Too bad JFK didn't live to see it.

I've heard it said that America would not have kept that promise if JFK had lived.

It was guilt that got you to the moon.

Deadman's hand guiding us all.

The Guilt about agreeing with JFK that you would go to the moon if you didn't.

Letting him down if he was alive is bad.

Letting him down after he died is the worst.

Deadness gave the guy a giant wad of credibility.

We went to the Moon because we want to beat the Russians anyway we can.

And ironically now we rely on them for space travel, disgusting.

He was credible because he was dead? I think the people at NASA had a lot more to do with getting to the moon than a dead or alive president did. If the talent wasn't there, it wouldn't matter if Kennedy was alive or dead.
This thread has wandered off topic, I'm sorry,

Not credibility, MORE credibility.

Compare to say if Nixon asked the same thing a week before Watergate if the Moon was still virgin territory in the early 1970s.

Yes, Kennedy was a martyr for a generation, and inspired people to up their game in general, from fighting for civil rights to going to the Moon.

People do use that quote out of context, but I don't think that was the case here. He said it with kind of a twinkle in his eye, a humorous counterpoint to the resistance he was getting. Given the circumstances, I think they kind of overdid the skepticism. After all, the planet has been invaded by multiple aliens and they've captured a spaceship. You'd think that would broaden the mind. :rommie:

So the lesson is, "Don't respond to Guy when he says stupid shit. Just nod and move on."

You know if they take the bemaer to the moon and the beamer is powerd by the moonbase and they take out the moonbase, then the beamer should lose power as well. So how do they return to earth?

You're thinking way too ahead for this show's writing team, buddy. Waaaay too ahead.

Some smug git gets in a lucky shot destroys one generator which is broadcasting intellect and power to all their battle droids... It's almost like the writers watched Phantom Menace together a couple months ago while writing the last few episodes of Falling Skies.

Who the fuck is going to say "Yippeeeeeee!" when the Moonbase blows?

(Please be Pope, please be Pope.)

Oo?

12 Episodes this year?

Until a few seconds ago, I assumed a LOT was going to happen next week.

Yea, I just noticed that myself after the end of this week's episode, when they said "One More Week until the 2 hour Season Finale". I was sure this was episode 10, coming up this week, and checked IMDB, and sure enough, 12 episodes this year.

We couldn't get 12 episodes a season when the creator of the show was still around? I'm still pissed he left.

Well if you think back it was kinda 8 episodes a season back then, since the the first two and last two were aired on the same nights.

Starchild powers activate!

God, I bet that's actually going to happen in an attempt to "redeem" Lexi in the eyes of her parents and the 2nd Mass for killing Lardass (which really was a mercy killing since the writers had been slowly killing her character for years now).
