I agree, it looks pretty fun. They won't have V's problem of GET TO THE STORY ALREADY! since it starts after the story has already begun.

The challenge will be, whomping up enough story to keep this going. What do they have? Plucky fighters, suffering defeats (but there can't be too many), victories (ditto), bemoaning what they've lost (will get tiresome if goes beyond the first few episodes), fighting among themselves (will get tiresome quickly if overused), and the mystery of what the aliens want (can't be kept a mystery too long, and when revealed, how much story can be spun off from it? That's why I'm thinking Goa'uld - strong story generator.)

Unlike V, this will have to be a very simple story, with only a few recurring elements. The simplicity might give it power and drive, but could also get repetitive and boring. But at least it won't meander and become unfocused like V did.

I'm actually interested in this from the trailer. That said, the production values seem high (and costly); so I hope it gets a chance; or worse they blow there wad on the pilot and the actual series suffers a bit; but again, if done well, it could be good.

They're probably hoping for strong international sales to offset costs. This seems like the kind of thing that does well overseas, especially with the Speilberg name.

I dunno about Noah Wylie, he seems unconvincing as the big leader of our plucky band of heroes. But maybe that's deliberate, making the leader less of a badass, noisy type than we expect. Works well on The Walking Dead.

One reason to hope for the best is the fact that Julie of the original V miniseries was hardly a highly charismatic action figure.And yet I completely bought her leadership role. Hopefully they can pull off the same feat with with Wylie's character.

Yes, I assume you mean the brain caps. The BBC adapted two of the books as a TV series. According to this Wiki article, Disney have been working on a film version, but I don't know if that's true. The prequel novel When the Tripods Came (1988) revealed that the aliens used mass hypnosis via TV to invade. Obviously, Simon Cowell is even more evil than we realised.

Terra Nova also has worrying signs of a production in trouble...

Look at The Walking Dead - there's nothing about it that is really all that groundbreaking - just a lot of familiar zombie tropes - but it works well anyway, because of smart writing and great acting.

It's a new scifi show by Steven Spielberg, Brannon Braga, David Fury and others that will premiere on FOX this Fall. It's about Earth dying and humanity being on the brink of extinction in 2149, so they send a group of colonists 85 million years back in time to start again... but with dinosaurs everywhere.

Colonel Quaritch from Avatar is once again the badass head of security fighting huge beasts in an exotic land, and Jason O'Mara from the American version of Life On Mars is once again visiting the past.

Picture Swiss Family Robinson meets A Sound of Thunder (or Jurassic Park if that's too obscure) meets Avatar.

Hey, it's FOX and it's Science Fiction (although not from a previously exisiting IP); thus it's good for about oh, 10-12 episodes before they pull the plug and release the Blu-Ray set in the following year.

It's not the same regime at FOX anymore as their cancel-happy predecessors. They're usually pretty good at giving scifi shows a fair chance to succeed in the ratings now. Dollhouse and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles were low-rated but got second seasons before being canceled, and they've kept Fringe alive despite it struggling a bit in the ratings.
