Expanse Season 4 Teaser and Preview

and (probably) Michio Pa.
Kinda/sorta but in the long run, probably not.
Yeah it was Pa not Drummer that was on the Behemoth, albeit as Ashford's XO, not the Captain (and Ashford was an entirely different character in all but name.) However, not to spoil anything for those only following the show, but those two characters take very different but also very plot significant paths in subsequent books to the point where I have a hard time seeing TV Drummer filling any of Book Pa's role from here on out. Indeed I half expect some version of Pa to show up either in this season or the next.
I kinda hope they bring Muss back in to fill some of that role and maybe the role Havelock would have had in the upcoming season (anyone have any word on either of those actors coming back btw?)

Nothing about either one. I doubt Havelock's coming back, the actor is now starring in Magnum PI.

Havelock was a much different character in the books versus the show as well. Mainly because in the books he actually liked MIller, while on the show he couldn't stand him.

I'm guessing they won't be bringing back the extra who played Basia in the second season either.

I read an article that was published a day or so ago where the author seems to believe that Havelock will in fact be part of Season 4, so I don't know what's going on.

I kinda hope not since that always felt like a little too much of a coincidence, especially with Havelock in play as well. Granted Katoa was only mentioned in the book and didn't play as significant a role as he did with the show, but still...

They know The Expanse has a built-in fanbase, and it's going to be a few years yet before Amazon builds a catalog of SF original content to rival Netflix. I don't think they can afford to cancel right now.
It also allows the Producers to keep production going to reduce the amount of time between Seasons going forward.

Did they change how they were doing the books per episode ratio? I thought the first season only covered half of the first book, but now they are doing book 4 for Season 4 and 5 for 5.

Book 1 was roughly season 1 and the first half of season 2, while book 2 was from there to about halfway through season 3, and book 3 was the last half of season 3. So the breaks between books are finally in line with the breaks between seasons.

Do the authors have a specific number of books in mind?
Nine novels. All but the final one have been released.

I'm interested if they'll be sticking to a one-book-per-season thing now. I liked their previous approach of giving each book as many episodes as it took to tell them, but with variable episode and, potentially, season lengths in streaming, that might not be as much of an issue as it was on conventional TV and they can do both.

I just checked and Season 4 is the same length as the first.
The episode counts have been 10 for Season 1 and 4, and 13 for 2 and 3.

Might not mean as much as you think, given they're no longer constrained by broadcast length.

Most streaming series seem to have between 5 and 15 episodes per season, so I wouldn't surprised if The Expanse sticks to around the same number of episodes for the Amazon seasons as it had on Syfy.

Counting in terms of the books they've covered, Leviathan Wakes was 15 episodes, Caliban's War was 14 episodes, Abaddon's Gate was 7, and (presumably) Cibola Burn will be 10 (though we'll have to see how that shakes out on an hourly basis).

Since reading the books, my assumption going into season 4 was that because of the contained nature of the story and lack of a logical cliffhager point, that they'd have to do the whole book in one season.

However seeing the trailer makes me pretty sure that they're also doing Bobbie's short story material as a parallel B-story, which makes me start to think otherwise. For one, there's not really enough of a story there to sustain even a B-story for 10 episodes. This and the fact that they probably need to find a reason to keep Shohreh Aghdashloo on the show leads me to suspect that they'll also be pulling a some of Bobbie's plot thread from 'Nemesis Games'. So it's possible there might be some bleed through between the books this season, even if the majority of the Roci crew's story will be exclusively from 'Cibola Burn' .

I wonder how long the episodes will go for this season. Thinking about reading Cibola Burn again, but first need to finish Nemesis Games.
