Ever noticed all the main captains have a J in there name?

GeneHunt

Commander
Red Shirt
James T Kirk
Jean Luc Picard
Benjamin Sisko
Kathryn Janway
Johnathan Archer

Coincidence?

It's Jonathan Archer.

And I'm going to go for a conspiracy of some sort.

I've read somewhere (probably here, but maybe other places, too) that both J-sounds and K-sounds (Katherine, Kirk, Sisko, Jean-Luc Picard) were/are considered strong sounding, and were therefore used on purpose for most of the captains' names. I have no idea if this is true or false.

James seemed a very popular first name for the leading characters of several 60s shows. James West. James Phelps. James T. Kirk.

I have heard this as well. I think generally hard consonant sounds were favored. I have a theory that it all started with Spock.

Names also seem to become fashionable for a while, depending on the era.
