Not even when Tucker said ``You're a trained diplomat'' to Archer that episode.

Besides, who could really foresee something like a dog peeing on a tree, or people taking public urination on a symbolically important item as offensive? These are totally whacked out impossible developments far less likely than Archer deciding to take Porthos on a landing party for the first time in a year.

You serious? Nearly half the people in America own at least one dog, but they don't exactly break out laughing while fetching the pooper scooper after a neighbor lets his dog leave a calling card on their lawn.

So, no, Archer had no reason at all to think Porthos peeing on a tree would be taken as an insult by the Kretassans, so well known for their forebearance in the face of what they perceive as vulgar behavior.

It's not a perfectly written episode by any means, but I interpreted the events as Archer having a major blind spot where his dog is concerned. Some people in the present day believe that their kid or pet can do no wrong, so I found it a believeable trait in Archer.

This makes a lot of sense to me. Yes, Archer was an ass.

As Laurel once said to Hardy, "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him think."

Fun romp, Archer f*cking up was the very point and luckily by the end, he apologized to everyone and they all forgave him ... except a pittance of the audience here.

I thought it was a pretty funny episode. I can think of dozens, if not hundreds, of Trek episodes I like less.

He also apologized to T'Pol a couple of times -- once when he jumped down her throat (it was during the "breast I can" dialog) and once before the tag (it was when T'Pol told him that it was a good thing he was her superior and she couldn't become sexually attracted to him).

So, the people he was cranky against all received an "I'm sorry."

As I recall, the juvenille attempt at Freudian slips was an attempt by Archer to resolve the so-called "sexual tension" between himself and T'Pol, not an apology, but it has been a while since I suffered through that episode. I also sure don't recall any apologies to Trip or Hoshi.

Trip got his own "apology" in getting to watch Archer "apologize" to the sacred tree. I just wish Trip he had cracked a smile at some point (when the Kretassans wouldn't be watching, of course ).

I think the main problem regards our starting point at the episode: if we take it totally seriously, it is indeed irritating. But, as some people pointed here, it is an attempt to a comedy: so, naturally, also the starting point (Archer taking his dog to the visit on the planet) is not really serious and we aren't supposed to take is as such (the rather ridiculous scene in decon conferms it). It would be far worse if Archer had made himself guilty of doing something REALLY bad & potentially dangerous for his crew and if the ship had been put in real danger because of his action. The premise is "light" because the episode is intended as such.
