Episode IX Speculation and Discussion

You do know that George Lucas had planned to have a female lead in the sequel trilogy? As for TLJ, we are all entitled to our opinions.

I think the point that is attempting to be made is that up til now, we have been given no real sense of ‘why’ Rey is the heroine. For Luke it was personal. That lack of development is on TLJ.
Without that that to fall back on, and all the political hoo-ha around the films, people will grasp on the ‘its girls turn’ thing, for good or ill.

Lucas, for all his flaws, would likely have given more of a ‘why’.

The new film, once again for good or ill, will explain why the characters are where they are. *shrug*

They are pretty salty, hamfisted ways of making the point/ raising the question. But it does very much come from TLJs utter inability to grow the story (which, even if you love the film dearly, if you look at it objectively, is absolutely true. Nothing moves on more than an inch in that film.)

It is also possible that the Rebels/New Republic used tractor beams and shields to shove the Death Star II's debris away from the Forest moon of Endor (to cover the Ewoks and the teams down on the planet). The Rebel fleet did set up between the Death Star II and the moon before the thing exploded.

It just occurred to me that maybe the reason we never learned anything about Snoke is because his backstory is tied into Palpatine, and they couldn't deal with it without revealing Palpatine was still around in some form.

Yeah. The way I see it, either:

a) Snoke wasn't aware of Palpatine surviving - but Palpatine was aware of Snoke and the First Order. Perhaps it served his long term goals to have remnants of the Empire and The New Republic fighting while he stayed out of sight in the unknown regions, free to pursue his agenda without anyone being the wiser until he was prepared to make his move. Or,

b) Snoke knew of/served Palpatine. I sincerely doubt Snoke was a literal puppet of Palpatine, speaking thru him directly. Snoke and the entire First Order may well have been set up as a side show until Palpatine had recovered and/or was ready to return. Had Kylo not chopped Snoke in two, he may well have been set up for the fall in a similar vein to Count Dooku.

Perhaps his time away was spent attuning himself without distraction even more with the dark side in an attempt to unlock every last mystery of the force.

They've released cover artwork for the second issue of the Rise of Kylo Ren, and it shows Luke and a pre-Kylo Ren Ben Solo fighting a group of Knights of Ren. This is a bit of a surprise to me, since I had assumed that Kylo Ren was the one who started the group and it was either named after him or he came up with both it's name and his new name together. Could Ren just be like their version of Darth, and they are all _____ Ren?
I am really curious to see this comic and see what actually happens. I put very little stock in cover art any more.

And, no, I didn't think Kylo started it. I thought Snoke had started it, and Kylo had proved himself as the greatest among his peers.

My running theory had been that they were actually a bunch of other surviving Jedi students from Luke's academy who also turned to the Dark Side joined up with Kylo and Snoke.

It was stated shortly after TFA's release that the Knights of Ren were a group that predated Kylo joining them.

Yeah, Adam Driver stated it in an interview, and JJ in another.

The TFA Visual Dictionary also kind of implies it, because it says Kylo's mask was based off the KoRs battle armour.

Which means the mask was made after he met them.

The official description for the comic backs up the cover art.
