Episode IX Speculation and Discussion

Rey was not born until 11 years after the destruction of the Second Death Star and. 10 years after the Imperial remnant who founded the First Order had ensconced themselves in the Unknown Regions.

For those who haven't watched Clone Wars and Rebels, this isn't the first folding doublesaber in canon.

Jedi Master Pong Krell had two in Clone Wars

And the Grand Inquisitor from Rebels, back when he was a Jedi Temple Guard, had one.

But why is a double lightsaber in her vision?
She grew up using a staff to defend herself on Jakku, it makes sense she would use a saberstaff.

People speculating about Rey being a clone are not correct in said speculation, as you cannot clone a Force-sensitive person in current SW Canon.

I wonder. Is it the Second Death Star's wreckage on (or near Endor) or is it the First Death Star's wreckage on or near Yavin? Crashing on one will have to bring up the Ewoks...the other doesn't.

I am confused about how either Death Star would have enough structure to crash into a body. IIRC, both were consumed by massive explosions, leaving nothing behind except debris, which would not be as big as shown in the trailer.

I have always thought this too. The previous image where they are looking at what appears to be a bit of the dish section looks too intact and also not big enough.

I agree with the basic idea here, it feels like false advertising since they usually use it to imply that something that doesn't actually happen will happen.
Well, it's a trailer. The point isn't to tell the movie's story, it's to generate interest in it. Indeed, there's been a few instances over the past few years where trailers have utterly spoilt the movies they were for, so given that as the alternative I'd take a misleading trailer any day.

In this instance, it's pretty obviously not what it appears and is being presented as such. I mean if Rey was going to suddenly do a full 180, complete with wardrobe change, then they'd never put it in the trailer. It's going to be some vision, or illusion or something of that kind. A glimpse of what might have been had she taken a different path.

Would you care to share where canon suggests this? Looking at the canon Wookiepedia page for cloning, there’s no mention of "Force" at all outside of titles in references.

The source is a Tweet from Story Group member Pablo Hidalgo.

He stated that you cannot transfer Midichlorians through a blood transfusion, that no stories exploring the idea of trying to clone a Force-sensitive person have been proposed, and that he does not see a way that such a story would work within the boundaries of what has been established in the Canon to date about the Force and how Force Sensitivity works.

When you add those statements up, they equal a declaration that cloning a Force-sensitive person is not possible within the boundaries and established lore of current Star Wars Canon.

It could also be interpreted that if you clone a force-sensitive person, the clone won't be force-sensitive.

I admit I'm just splitting hairs here, though.

I think you mean TROS.

Except that's not false advertising. It's a bunch of clips out of context to generate interest. Just look at Rogue One and all that. Did the trailers diminish enjoyment of Rogue One?

Or The Last Jedi which also implied that Rey might go to the Dark Side but ultimately didn't. The moment is deliberately presented to provoke fans with a misleading image. And I love it for that quality.

Here is my take -

We have seen in new cannon that Vader, while in meditation , does not see his arms or legs in the Force and we know from the novels that one of the reasons the Droids were working very quickly to save Vader after Mustefar was to preserve the MCs in his body. This is also backed up by George Lucas , who stated that Vader lost 20 % of his power due to his injuries.
However, We see Yoda being able to interact with the physical world as a Force Ghost. There is widespread fan speculation that a Sith is unable to completely transition to a Force Ghost but what if Palp was able to come part way thru the process , requiring a physical body to compensate for not being able to complete the entire transfer. This could explain Matt Smiths role in TROS, a willing , Force sensitive vessel to facilitate Palps long term goal of defeating death. Matt is very good at playing a very young and very old soul in the same body so he was a great choice if my theory is correct.

In the original EU , Palp did have a set of clones stored away to transfer himself into in the event of his death so the concept of combining a powerful Force user and a clone has been around for a while and predates Disneys new cannon. We also have Lord Moman's Helmet as part of cannon and other "Essence Transfers " from other EU novels so these ideas have been explored before.

For myself, Rey as a clone or as an Anakin type birth both work so long as TROS confirms one or the other and does not just leave us guessing. I feel the same way about Palp's return, so long as both are well written. TROS could be a very good movie.
