If Enterprise was in its 7th season, there wouldn't be any Earth/Romulan War arc because Berman, since he'd still be in charge of Star Trek had planned to do the war in the Star Trek: The Beginning movie. You might have seen the lead up to the war, with the Romulan generally undermining things during the last 3 seasons, but no actual war.

It certainally would have been a bold move though...no other series has done that obviously.

Blake's 7. B5, Sinclair disappeared. It's been done. Although Avon is my favorite character, once Blake left the series was less fun to watch.

I think Admiral_Young meant no Trek series has ever done anything like that. It definitely would have shaken things up, especially if it were T'Pol who assumed command afterward (let's say Archer doesn't make it off the Xindi superweapon in Zero Hour, just as an example). But since Archer was being trumped as this supposedly big and important mega-hero to the entire Federation, obviously he wasn't going anywhere.

Archer was no George Washington or Ben Franklin of the Federation to be sure. More of a Daniel Boone or Davy Crockett with better help.

I think TNG, as initially set up, was intended to have the #2 guy, Riker, as more the #1 guy; the show started from Riker's point of view. In general, what shows do over time is play to the actors strengths and develop the characters. I remember when Picard was a boring guy who "hated kids." Boy, they fleshed out his character from season 4 on. He quickly became a favorite, along with Data and Worf.

Yeah, hard to kill the main character, especially when the beginning shows -- in partulcar -- are told from his point of view.

Odd, because as often as HRH posts in the Enterprise forums you'd think he likes the general job done on the show.
