TATV would have been a really lame episode at any time. As a series finale, it's truly terrible.

Whenever you hear the words "valentine to the fans" or anything similar, activate the self-destruct and run for the transporter. Something wicked this way comes. (See also: Roswell finale; other examples I can't think of right now.)
