Enterprise reveal... what did you think?

So the very first picture of the 1701 released was in fact the first glimpse of it (completed) in the movie! I'm curious what people thought of the scene?

Personally, I thought it was FANTASTIC. I was dreading an over-the-top 5 minute sequence wanking over every tiny detail on the ship.

But the way it almost came out of the blue, combined with the camera angle and fantastic dramatic music, and the way the massive ship was revealed via a pulling-away shuttle, was spot on for me. Excellent scene.

Bear in mind, for those that will compare it to the one from TMP... that Enterprise had an emotional bond with Kirk and the crew, and the Star Trek franchise as a whole, it deserved the emotional 'reunion' as it where.

This 1701, is brand new and shiny, and I can definitely understand the toned down welcome it got on screen. Worked really well I thought.

I couldn't agree more...I felt like giving it a standing ovation right there in the theatre...it was like an homage to the scene from TMP (still my favorite Trek film, but ST 09 is gaining ground!) , but a bit abbreviated to fit with the fast-paced feel of the new film...

You know, I have to admit, at first, the new look of this film bothered me...it was comic-bookish, and it reminded me alot of the space scenes from 1998's Lost in Space disaster...I really liked the effects in that movie, but the film sucked...I am so glad that Trek got almost everything right though, and now that I have had a few days to digest everything, this new style has really grown on me...

Bravo!

The reveal was good but I got more goosebumps when the ship came out all guns blazing as Sock was about to crash into the Narada. Even more goosebumps in the closing scene with Nimoy's voice-over

I liked it! It's exciting!!

It didn't need to be as long as the reveal we got in TMP. The one in TMP was special because it was the first time we see a Starfleet ship in the big screen...so it was appropriate for the time.

The one in this film fit the pacing of the movie overall.

Unlike some fans, I didn't come away thinking the scene should have been longer.

Exactly...remember the circumstances..their has been an emergency distress call from Vulcan, and these wet-behind-the-ear cadets are having to high-tail it to their assigned ships and hit the road (as it were), so no real time for a loving fly-by...I thought it worked perfectly well to have McCoy introduce the scene as awestruck by the ship's beauty, kind of neat to see him not bitching about something (although I love it when he bitches about things, like being "drafted" in TMP)

I think I actually said 'Oh my God' under my breath with the Big E appeared for the first time. The new design is fabulous and ILM gave her several amazing opportunities to shine.

You know, it's so hard not to show off when you're proud of something; when you've designed something beautiful. And boy, did TMP show off the Enterprise.

This new movie didn't. And it made the Enterprise all the more beautiful.

I've seen the movie twice so far (and will see it 2 more times this weekend, both with more family and friends), and both times I had a lump in my throat and welled up a bit when she first appears on screen.

In IMAX, it's full-on amazing.

The other shot that got me was when she's coming out of Titan. Another weepy moment.

I need to see this movie in IMAX! *chomping at the bit*

You have to! I went at 1pm this past Friday, and the showing was sold out, with people in the lobby and queued out the door to get tickets for the next IMAX showing!

The picture and sound are amazing, and shots like we're discussing here are just ones that put you in awe.

Still brought a tear to me eye! :bolian:

I really wish they HAD spent more time letting us see the ship, because everything moved so fast, it's like you've got to buy a model or toy to actually find out what the ship really looks like.

Hmmm...

There may have been a reason for the limited glimpses....they ain't stupid.

I loved the reveal, nice and simple shot from the shuttle and a glimpse of the name before heading inside.

It was perfect for this new ship. I watched FC last night and the reveal of their new Enterprise was dreadful. Considering it was a whole new ship and the dramatic new design all we got was a standard shot and monologue.
