ENTERPRISE on Blu-Ray OFFICIAL Discussion Thread

Yeah, I enjoyed the special features more than I expected on this actually. The In Conversation one was very good, very interesting. Really got to see the creators honest views on the show, it's mistakes, it's achievements, the actors, the higher-ups at Paramount, the infamous theme song, etc. The interviews with the cast/crew were great too. Dominic Keating had a very entertaining story about his casting audition! Love that guy... I haven't listened to the new commentaries yet, but look forward to them.

The video quality is a nice upgrade, but yeah, not as big a jump as TNG. I only bought Season One because I saw it ridiculously cheap (it was a pricing error, in fact), but it impressed me, so I plan on picking up Season Two, as long as it isn't too expensive.

Hm.... I'll think I'll wait a bit to see of there's going to be a complete set in the future then.

I've been waiting on Price Drops for both the TNG and Enterprise Blu sets, I've paid for these things to many times. I recently picked up a Used copy of TNG S3 for $39 that was in Great shape, no need to spend double that, just wait a bit

A while back the preorder for S2 of ENT was around $25. I jumped on it right away. Hopefully we'll see prices like that more often!

Unfortunately, that was a listing mistake; future sets will be at the prices we've been used to seeing - but for those of us who got in on that deal at the time, it's a nice savings!

But they did that twice for the season two set on Amazon UK. Which makes it hard to believe in a listing mistake, at least the second time around.

It was, believe me. It just took a bit for Paramount UK to get the Amazon page corrected.

It wasn't a mistake. Sainsbury's listed the set for the same price. The Enterprise sets aren't selling as well as the TNG sets. Just compare TNG season 4 that's out next week (ranked on #10 in television on Blu Ray) with ENT season 2 (ranked #114). Paramount desperately needed to get ENT in the top 10 to draw attention to the release. It worked temporarily.

The incorrect pricing came from Paramount UK, which is why it was at Sainsbury's and Amazon.co.uk had the pricing - and every other market outside of the UK had the higher pricing. It was not intentional.

How do you know this?

CBS (in the US) and Paramount (UK / Europe) sets the baseline prices for their products. There's no way in hell they would properly authorize a retailer to sell a new release at 20% of it's list price.

You may be right. Still, according to Trekcore this was a introduction price for a limited time only. That doesn't sound like a mistake. Temporarily lowering the price would make sense since the Enterprise Blu Rays aren't selling that well.

I'm interested to see your Enterprises sales numbers.

I doubt anyone has the actual number of units sold, but he did mention where each new release ranked on Amazon's sales chart.

This. Thanks BillJ. ;)

Today's Amazon UK's Film and TV (DVD & BD) rankings are:

TNG S4 #116
ENT S2 #3,222

To be fair, today is the release day of TNG S4 and ENT S2 isn't out yet. So let's compare the other TNG releases with ENT S1 and we get this.

TNG S3 #3,173
ENT s1 #24,584

TNG S2 #6,025
TNG S1 #5,582

Again, no sales numbers but these rankings show that even the 5 year old release of TOS season 1 (# 20,191) is currently outselling ENT S1. All I'm saying is that it's very possible that some Paramount UK marketer looking at this chart might think it's a good idea to try something different pricewise.

I just hope ENT BD sales are sufficient for CBS to complete releasing all four seasons.

Enterprise was originally made in high-def, there are no additional costs for converting episodes involved, so it's unlikely it's unprofitable even if the sales aren't huge.
Therefore it's almost certain they'll release them all.
