ENTERPRISE design in the new film? (How many changes?)

If it's a good story and is in keeping with the original spirit of Trek, TPTB can do whatever they like.

Yep.

I'm interested in this movie.

I love "Star Trek," but I don't have any interest in "protecting the history of the Trek Universe." The Franchise is dead.

I'd just like to see a good Trek project.

As long as the changes are not radical in nature I think it will be okay. If they just change the color of some lights or alter the paint job on some parts I doubt I would even notice the difference.

I hope J.J. does not change a thing that is noticable, keep Gene's universe intact - everything like NV's does - ships, space stations and history. Concentrate on other things than design. Keep the colors. I'm the only one who likes the Phase II Enterprise designs though. I thought it was very bold and beautifully different and are from Ralph Mcquarrie - the guy who designed the Star Wars ships. I loved the animated series bridge with the white center seat. I thought that was neat. I hope the bridge is not too big. I hope J.J. forgets Enterprise and any of the movies or t.v series ever existed - design or historical wise.

But of course that's not the way it's going to be.

Isn't this the same thing that happened with classic coke, only this time it's not going to end so well, is it. It'll prove that nobody can do it again though I don't believe that.

Or a movie about Spartan warfare with a hard rock sound track. That' wouldn't sell well at all.

:sighs: Not the sound track, northern soldiers gangsta rapping to the front lines.

:sighs: It's not about :sighs: the semantics, :sighs: but :sighs: about the :sighs: fact that :sighs: what sells sells :sighs: and that's all that really matters to the tudio :sighs: paying for a major :sighs: motion picture.

Whew... I think I'm getting dizzy from all this :sighing:

^ Oh yes. I hope I didn't make anyone think I was in favor of drastic style changes. I just wanted to inject a little reality.

Oh Gene, you'll be appreciated a hundred years from today. Is it so hard to get details right ? consistancy is what makes something what it is. It's a big universe. It should be very easy to stear clear of stuff because there is no past continuity to worry about, just a future one. It happens before TOS. So being true to the events in TOS doesn't seem that hard. This is pre TOS : the movie with new actors, that's all - like a recast 'In Thy Image'. Tying it in to the success and timeline of TOS will just make it that more powerful and meaningful, else create your own damn universe if it's so easy and leave Kirk and Spock out of it, that's all. It should be about the birth of a legend.

Sure - if you ignore every specific of the two situations in favor of throwing around a tired and superficial analogy...

only this time it's not going to end so well, is it.

We don't know, do we?

It'll prove that nobody can do it again though I don't believe that.

Well, that'll just be too bad. No wait - it won't. The old "Star Trek" is finished because it deserves to be. People choose to watch other things instead.

Yea, like Star Wars, which is also about frienship, family and the human soul too. The old Star Trek is dead, make way for the new star Trek. The old Star Trek is gonna be around for alot longer than any of its reincarnations.

In reruns, sure.

As long as they can keep "improving" or changing every release of it in some way - like TOS Remastered - they can probably keep selling the discs, too.

Although - let's face it - they mainly sell these things to folks who already own some earlier version. The number of new TOS fans in this country is not growing by leaps and bounds.

New episodes, new movies like the old ones? Nope. Franchise under new management.

Thank the great bird of the galaxy... we needed that two TV shows and two movies ago.

The Enterprise is often referred to a lady. The elegant and iconic design of Matt Jefferies makes HER very beautiful indeed. Keep it clean with simple lines and symetry. She's a lady folks, don't muck it up and turn her a man.

I want to see boobs on the Enterprise.

There already are, the saucers are two boobs while the nacelles are cocks. Symbolism is so lost on some people. ;)
