ENTERPRISE design in the new film? (How many changes?)

I'm in the camp of -

Either keep the look the same and i'll be accepting of "liberties" with trek "history"

or

update the overall feel (ship, uniforms, etc) and keep the history intact.

I don't want to see any changes! I love the ship as it is, it's such a brilliant and iconic design. They should have no problem making it look modern without messing with it, just look at Enterprise In a Mirror Darkly and Star Trek Remastered!

That said if they change it I'll still see the movie.

/\ As long as it has the saucer section, the main hull, and the warp nacells, the design team can let their imaginations run wild. Not too wild though :)

I doubt that they'll make wholesale changes to the design of the Enterprise; it's one of the most recognizable ships of Sci-Fi.

I think that we're likely to get some cross between the original Enterprise and the refit Enterprise. Like Kirk, Spock, and McCoy, it has to be recognizable to the audience to generate mass appeal.

I have a feeling it will be different, with the detail of the NX-01, on the superstructure of the 1701 original - the idea being that this was her original "look" and the smooth lines that we know are actually overlaid on this structure after this adventure - like the so called "missing armor" of the nuBSG according to some BSG fans - which would mean we would, indeed, get to see the original Enterprise we love, but at the end after her first "refit."

Oh, and - insert complaint about nacelle caps here - :D

Same design, but different color...probably chrome, since that always looks futuristic. The nacelles should be big, rotating disco balls.

Seriously, if they keep the same shape, but add some detail, I'm good with that.

to the "I really can't accept any change" crowd....my only suggestion is to bring a valium to the theater and relax
Right on. :D I hope there's no heart attacks to interrupt my movie going experience the day I see JJ Abrams's Star Trek,

Something along the lines of the TMP Enterprise or the way it looked in DS9's Trials & Tribble-ations or the way that the Defiant was reworked in ENT's Through a Mirror Darkly...

Ummm...

The DS9 episode used a half-sized model based on the original 11 foot one now at the Smithsonian. Except for size, it was IDENTICAL.

The ship seen in "In a Mirror, Darkly" wasn't any different either, from what I could tell.

Why do you say 'like in TMP or in the two other cases'?

TMP was changed, the other two were not.

Did you not come across some of the blistering criticisms of the Enterprise as depicted in either DS9 or "In a Mirror, Darkly"?

Let's face it, there is no way to please EVERYONE (and trying to do so is a poor way to make a film). Let them do what they want. I trust the "new" Enterprise won't be confused with the "Jupiter 2". It's a movie, not a religion.

Nope. Please tell me what people were complaining about. I never noticed any changes in either version.

Mostly the complaints were about how "fake" the ship looked. Some people thought the CGI ENT looked better than the model, some people thought the
model was CGI. Some people just don't know what they're talking about. They just like to bitch.

I can't wait to see this film in the theatre. I think being in a room with all these people, watching them get all knotted up about how they got the numbering under the starboard support pylon wrong or how they messed up the font on the tricorder display will certainly make the experience complete.

I won't have a cow if the ship is radically changed, but I have to say it would have more emotional pull if it was pretty much familiar.

I also don't quite get why modern audiences would reject the ship as originally designed. It's not like it's a 57 Chevy floating in space. It still looks like a spaceship.

Well said.

I myself wouldn't enjoy being surrounded by people who conform to stereotypes.

As long as they do a sweet transformation sequence for when it converts into giant humanoid robot mode, I'm happy.

Probably want to wait for the second weekend, then.

You'll be dissapointed if you want to see that! Unless the movie really does bomb and the only people that show up are the really freaky minority that brings clipboards to the teater. I've never met such a person in real life yet though.

Personally, I can 'survive' whatever changes they want to make, but would rather they didn't change too much, like most of us, probably. Trek isn't our life, it's just a very interesting bitching topic. :D

In the end they will change what they want. My guess is, it won't be too much.
