He's apparently a recurring character, not a cameo.

The "pass the torch" cameos are fine, they're basically just one scene to say "now go your own way", and crossover eps have generally been few and far enough between that they're not over used. Hopefully Discovery will be the same.

I'd love a "pass the torch"-cameo: A single 20 seconds scene of a familiar face, and then be done with it.

It doesn't have to be in person, it can be an old video recording.
I don't know, like Michael Burnham watching an old Captain's log of Archer and the NX-01 encountering a similiar situation. Getting a specific plot point information (that normally would just be "read out" by onr of the bridge stations, but here delivered via video by Archer), and then quickly move on with this new information.

I agree; I'd like to see a cameo from Archer or T'Pol in a passing the torch sense. Like McCoy in Encounter at Farpoint or Cochrane in Broken Bow.

Wasn't Michael Dorn approached for a cameo in DSC? Perhaps it's Colonel Worf that runs the Discovery holodeck program to aid him in understanding and defending humans in court.
