This exact thought hit me two days ago. Enlist? NCO's like Miles O'Brien, Simon Tarsus, and Sierge Roschenko enlisted. The officers applied to the Academy and were either accepted or rejected. I contemplated posting these obsessive thoughts. Then I took my ridallin, lythium, and vallium, and the voices stopped shouting in my head. Now they only whisper, "You are the Angel of Death."
So what else is new?
The writers probably wanted a term that would be understood by the common person.
That would happen even if it's concrete.
Wimps enroll... real men enlist!
