Enlist in Starfleet

Finally the time has come! A new day shall dawn - and in the misty morning light we shall see two opposing forces, each as convinced of their righteousness as the other.Nice...I never saw this one coming.
Enlist vs enroll.
This thread should start a fight lasting several pages in true Trek fan fashion.
They shall meet in bloody combat. And yes, it will be bloody. Words will be said. Harsh, uncompromising words. Someone....someone will claim retrospective pre-adolescent metaphorical molestation has befouled them.
That's how bad things can get in this awful, awful war.
But spare a thought, if you will, for those if us on the sidelines. Those of use who will say "Ummm...dunno, really. Not bothered. Does it matter?" for we are not made of the stern, battle-hewn stuff that is required in these heady days of furious combat and wild-eyed righteousness.
A day of reckoning is upon us! I've been waiting for this day my whole life. Let's all convene at the jungle gym at 5 a.m Sunday. If your mom still drives you travel arrangements will be made.

From a writer stand-point, "enlist in Starfleet" sounds much stronger than "enroll in Starfleet Academy."
This partially mirrors my thoughts.
I think Pike purposefully used enlist because he senses Kirk is more of a Warrior type personality than an Academic one.
God this is sad, in the extreme. Arguing over the most insignificant of minutae yet again. Wait a moment, I'll put on my enraged face..

There was this exact same debate going on at another Star Trek message board. I did get heavily involved in it. But I have learned my lesson and will opt out of this debate.

Kind of my reaction, too. I couldn't care less which word Pike uses. I only care for what he's trying to say.

What if Pike is talking to Kirk after Kirk has enrolled at the Academy and washed out (perhaps due to rigging the Kobayashi Maru test) and is trying to get him to go back? Perhaps after having washed out, enlistment is the only way to get back in. Hence the black shirt. Even then, McCoy has to fake his illness to get him aboard the Enterprise. Then, as a former command school cadet, he has enough clout to take command later on.
Yeah, it occurred to me early in the thread (and more so after reading Franklin's post here) that this might be a fragment of a larger, more thorough statement.
Or -- and it isn't as if we haven't seen examples of this in Star Trek episode teasers and trailers before -- consider that it might have been a line read for the trailer only, one which is not actually in the movie, but which may have been thought more likely to get across to the trailer-viewing (regular-folks/non-Trek-fan) audience in the theaters. "Enlist" is an action-movie word, as opposed to "enroll", which sounds more like going to school.

As far as I knew, you apply to go to an academy, then you get to enroll ....
you enlist to go join the military as a grunt.
They just picked a word that would carry OOMPH, not necessarily be right (probably same thinking that gives them bigger nacelles.)
I am currently in the process of enlisting in the Navy. Some guys I went to MEPS with were headed for OCS, but they still had to go through the same "enlistment" process, up to a point.
Just a thought...
Perhaps Captain Pike uses the phrase as an in-universe insider joke, referring to some kind of Starfleet advertising campaign (I remember some World War II-era armed forces posters challenging everybody to 'ENLIST!')?
