I heard somewhere that you can hear the words "Cadet Vader" during the Ship-Assignment sequence.

^^^ I think it's unnecessary and rather inappropriate...you wanna put Trek eggs in...fine and great.....you wanna include a few star wars here and there...OK...but must he but references/eggs in about every project he's ever worked on???

His film, his call.
Well .....because I said so!![]()
Because what the hell does Cloverfield have to do with Star Trek besides they were directed by the same person??? It's like enough already and stick to the story instead of inserting a reference to every single thing you've ever worked on in there. Maybe they should of focused more on fixing any plot holes instead of plugging them up with these easter eggs ---- that don't belong in the movie in the first place.

Oh, yes, I heard that. I was wondering if some of the onlookers in the bar were old Trek production people or something. Some looked fairly average Joe.

Obviously you have a problem focusing on the important things... most people don't even notice this crap (I didn't the first time I saw the film).
Speaking of focusing on unimportant things: it's 'should have' not fucking 'should of'.
Good god, man! Learn your own language!

Yeah, that sort of referencing of other directors' works / the director's own work / other universes / other genres is pretty much expected and has been since Spielberg, Lucas and that crowd first came along. Forget First Contact; many episodes of TNG were filled with little nods and winks to anime and manga, to M*A*S*H, to Star Wars, to Buckaroo Banzai, to Doctor Who and loads of other things.^^^ I think it's unnecessary and rather inappropriate...you wanna put Trek eggs in...fine and great.....you wanna include a few star wars here and there...OK...but must he but references/eggs in about every project he's ever worked on???

True. Even Jonathan Frakes allowed STAR WARS Easter Eggs into FC back in 1996, and Spielberg slipped R2-D2 into CLOSE ENCOUNTERS more than thirty years ago.
