Easter Eggs? (Spoilers)

His film, his call.

True. Even Jonathan Frakes allowed STAR WARS Easter Eggs into FC back in 1996, and Spielberg slipped R2-D2 into CLOSE ENCOUNTERS more than thirty years ago.
Yeah, that sort of referencing of other directors' works / the director's own work / other universes / other genres is pretty much expected and has been since Spielberg, Lucas and that crowd first came along. Forget First Contact; many episodes of TNG were filled with little nods and winks to anime and manga, to M*A*S*H, to Star Wars, to Buckaroo Banzai, to Doctor Who and loads of other things.

See a partial list here.

It's just not new in Trek and wasn't unheard-of even during the late 1960s, when TOS was in its original run; to get upset about it now is kind of pointless and silly.

I thought we had an agreement that you were never ever never never ever ever going to refute me! So the deals off I see....Ok you know what that means...you're off the payroll!

Now I hope you don't think I'm really "upset"....I mean let's keep this in perspective here....but I just don't find it necessary to litter every scene with non-related easter eggs...hey that's great if there are a few in there....but the sheer amount that's littered about...it's out of hand I tell you! Oh and this isn't just any movie or any franchise...this is Star Trek...totally different and he can keep his other projects OUT!

Can we get an icon that blows a kiss...I'd love that one and then my life is complete and I can die happy. Oh wait this board is mostly men...I'm never gonna get that one....:wah:

I swear that, in the scene where Spock is flying the Jellyfish through the Narada's docking bay, I could see the T'Plana Hath from First Contact on one of the docking struts.

Can't be sure, though. Guess I'm gonna have to see it again. :rommie:

I think you are right cause I noticed it in the upper left area of the screen

Also, one of the other admirals - the one sitting to the left of Tyler Perry - is Admiral Komack from the original series. Not the same actor of course, but the same character.

The name of the admiral is Admiral James Komack, of Welcome Back, Kotter and The Courtship of Eddie's Father fame. But, he additionally wrote "A Piece of the Action" episode.

There's a TNG movie-era easter egg(of sorts)in "Regeneration"...the Borg episode of ENT from 2003. When the Arctic excavation team finds the Borg sphere wreckage, one circular/elliptical chunk of it is in reality part of the shooting model of the 1701-E used in a couple of the most recent films.

What I meant was, there was a character called Admiral Komack in "Amok Time" from the original series. It was the same character as we just saw in ST XI. He was indeed named after the "A Piece Of The Action" director (though we only just learned his 'canon' first name, in the film; in TOS, he was just called Admiral Komack).

Just so happens, I have a picture of said TOS Admiral Komack:

Curious...anyone got a screenshot of Komack in the new movie? Does the new actor look anything like a slightly younger version of the original guy?

It grieves me that I don't have a DVD of the movie yet and won't for months. I need my screen caps.

I thought it slightly amusing that list mentions the episode Aquiel, but neglects to note that most characters in the episode were named for characters from David Eddings' Belgariad and Mallorean.
I did say that it was a partial list. ;) (In fact, I'm pretty sure the list used to be longer, two or three iterations of that site ago, but not sure if that particular detail was included.)

And what deal was that, pray tell? No one is exempt, I'll have you know. No one. :p

I've never seen one that was very good, and most of them are pretty awful. If you find a good one, take a copy and show it to Bonz.

I didn't notice it first time, but there are two tribbles shown twice during the scene when they first meet Scotty, to his right and behind.

Best I could manage I'm afraid.

Meh. Possibly. I can sorta see them being the same guy...you can go totally grey or silver in less than one decade if there's enough stress in your life.

Try and keep an eye out for the names of shuttles in the movie- they're named after filmmakers (example, the shuttle Bones and Kirk take to the Enterprise is named "Gilliam" for Terry Gilliam)

One Man's Trash is Another Man's Treasure - Writer/producer Alex Kurtzman revealed that his favorite "Trek" secret is a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment from the scene where the Enterprise comes out of warp speed and into a battle above Vulcan. "When they arrive and all the debris is flying at the Enterprise, take a very close look at the debris," he explained, saying a cool Easter egg is in there. "You'll have to watch it on DVD, because it goes by very fast. But take a close look at what's floating in the debris."

Huh. I've watched the seen about six times now and I see nothing.

This is a long shot, but it looks like the very first piece of debris that the Enterprise has to dodge (and this is the first second and a half after leaving warp) is the saucer section from an NX class starship. I could be wrong.

Still watching.

I'm not sure, but maybe you missed the 'You'll have to watch it on DVD' part. ;)

I have a DVD and it's a real copy and a legal one, just not the "for sale" variety. My boyfriend received an advanced copy about a week ago for "official purposes". I've watched the scene and unless it's going to be added later, I probably just need it pointed out to me.

Oh, then I must apologize. Sorry, superstring01. I did not take that possibility into consideration. But you must admit, it was rather unlikely that I was actually talking to someone who had the luck of getting the DVD.
