Dune Part 2 2023 (24, 25, 26...)

I'd seen that but I haven't seen an official "Dune Messiah in pre production" notice, just Denis and Legendary saying they're looking at it together. Like they're still figuring it out/negotiating before officially putting it in pre-production. He still has Rendezvous with Rama ahead of Messiah unless he's changing up the order, while optioning the rights to this new book potentially for after Rama & Messiah.

Maybe I'm wrong and misread it though. Would not be the first time.

They're bringing it back to IMAX starting April 19. I guess that's why the deals for Ghostbusters and Godzilla end.

A similar ethos to Stanley Kubrick and the opposite of those like Lucas who kept on tinkering. It's artistically valid, but it must frustrate the execs.

Is IMAX cropped or is the standard widescreen?

The widescreen is cropped, it's filmed in imax. If you go on YouTube there's a ton of videos showing the difference in the first movie. On this forum I get ads for IMAX using the new movie as the example showing the difference, using the work attack.

Has DV ever expressed a preference? (I mean, maybe the fact that he's not selling us IMAX is the answer to that question.)

He has. He's stated that the IMAX cut is his preferred version, the way the movie was meant to be seen, and gave an interview awhile back where he was surprised it wasn't on home video, he thought it was, that it was supposed to be.

If you go between the two you really notice the difference. Especially in the first one. There are jarring cuts and tilts in the widescreen version trying to get necessary visuals on screen that is just there in the IMAX version. I really noticed it when I watched IMAX and then widescreen within a couple days of each other.

So once again the Studio That Can Do No Right fumbles what should be an easy touchdown. :brickwall: Pass.

Literally why I've not bought the first movie. I'm not being gouged with a double dip or buying the version I don't want to keep as a placeholder.

Do we know if the streaming version will be IMAX or widescreen? I can't remember what the first one was when I watched it on either Hulu or Netflix.
Disney does have both versions for their movies, and the first one I watched was Black Widow and it took me a bit to get used to it because only some scenes were IMAX, so the aspect ratio kept going back and forth.
