Dune Part 2 2023 (24, 25, 26...)

In an unsurprising move the release has been pushed back a month to Nov 17 2023. The question is if the new date, which puts it in a better Oscar/box office position, will stick. Wonka, WB's other Chalamet film, is already scheduled for mid December 2023 and has already finished filming vs Dune which doesn't have a set production schedule yet, with targets being filming starting by the end of summer and Jordan at the end of 2022.

It's not likely they'll have Wonka and Dune competing against each other for box office dollars but after Part 1's success it would be a shock if WB doesn't want to maximize Oscar & box office potential for Part 2. So if it does need more time & gets pushed back again, unless it trades dates with Wonka, I'd guess it'll be a big push, well into 2024.

Oh, man, Léa Seydoux is excellent casting of her as Lady Margot!

I wonder if we'll get a flashback of Jessica discovering the secret communication, but probably not. That'll probably come off a bit clunky. We had that chance and it's gone.
I doubt it since IIRC that scene was a component of the larger plot thread about who suspected who of being the traitor, and that entire thing was simply removed. Mostly because it ultimately doesn't matter. Even if they end up keeping the Thuffir/Feyd stuff in part 2, you don't really need to have established his suspicion of Jessica to sell the turn.

As for the other Fenring showing up; as much as I'd like to see it, I wouldn't be shocked if they rolled the function of them into just the one character. It'll probably mean I won't get to see one of my three favourite moments from the book* but them's the breaks.

* The one where the Baron damn near voids himself when he realises just how dangerous Fenring is; the other two being the Jamis knife fight, and Thuffir in the shield wall cave with the fremen. Probably won't get the latter one either. Oh well, one out of three isn't awful!

What the hell was Sean Young thinking?

Might be a tax problem?

It's more a 'I need to work because I need the money, so I appeared in this movie' issue.

I'm seeing "leaked" photos supposedly from first day of shooting in a few places, not going to post them.

Yeah, it would be pointless to reference it in the second half. What she was warning Jessica about came and went and got dealt with. And the two women never actually interact in person in the novel (though the Dune Encyclopedia says they likely knew each other on Wallach IX as students before Margot was sent to Gamont to learn how to become an expert at seduction).

As for the actress... never heard of her. What a ghastly color of lipstick in that photo. She looks like a clown.

I don't know why, but I can't get the idea out of my head that Jeff Goldblum would make for a compelling choice for Fenring.
Seems like someone Walken would hang out with? Check! Can pull off an idiosyncratic speech pattern? Double check! Would look totally at home at a royal banquet? Check! Can probably steal a scene from Skarsgard? Check! Looks like he could shiv a fool and make it seem polite? Check!

I know I always pictured Fenring as being a smaller guy, like a Steve Buscemi type who can pull off the switch from easy going to serial killer intensity; "a killer with the manners of a rabbit" and all that. But once Goldblum occurred to me, I have a hard time seeing anyone else (and I'm sure I'm far from the first person to think of this.) Previously I thought Gary Oldman would be ideal, but in all honesty that's cheating; Oldman is perfect for every role!

What about Brad Dourif?

Gods. I hadn't thought of that before but now that you've laid it, yes. I need this casting now.

no it was more a case of she's a big Dune fan and got shitty with her agent when she nearly missed out on the part.
I'm gonna need a source on that. Seems mildly dubious that she's such a huge Dune fan that she couldn't bear to not be in a shitty rip-off.

First of all, this looks like a fan film of the same crappy quality as many of the Star Trek fan films that happen to score an actor from the professional production who agrees to participate for whatever the minimum pay is. It should be painfully obvious that it's a crappy fan film since it's filmed at the Vasquez Rocks site where so many TOS and westerns (ie. some Bonanza episodes) were shot.

As for Sean Young nearly missing out on playing Chani in Lynch's movie, yes, that's real. Her agent screwed up by not keeping her informed on a meeting she was to have with the director and producer, and each party thought the other had stood them up. By a weird coincidence they all ended up on the same plane, got introduced, and had their meeting right there. This account is related in Ed Naha's book The Making of Dune (fantastic book detailing the ups and downs of that movie, and doesn't gloss over the stuff that went wrong).

That's not what was being proposed though. Guy asked what Sean was thinking being in Planet Dune, Shaka Zulu said she was in it because she needed the money, Marc said it was because she was a big fan and nearly missed out.

But it's clear now what happened. :)

It's something I read years ago.

Tried to find but not luck with my google-fu.

Did find the following which definitely doesn't come across as some-one who was doing it just for the money.

As mentioned above, the subject was "Planet Dune", a shitty direct to DVD thing, not the Lynch film. Which is what confused me. All set now. :)
