Dune 2018 (19,20,21...)

I've never heard of this actor, and my impression, based on the photo, is that he might have been a candidate for Duncan Idaho (going solely by the photo; I have no idea what the rest of him looks like).

Shame Kyle MacLachlan is too old for Leto. Anyone see his Dune through emojis tweet?

I love how he expresses "The sleeper has awakened"! :guffaw:

He plays Poe Dameron in the new STAR WARS movies. Maybe you've seen him there?

Nope. I saw the first of the new movies, but not the others. I don't go to movies anymore, so if it's not on the Space Channel, I don't see it.

Well, he definitely has demonstrated the ability to play a variety of characters. I am excited to see him as the Duke.

He was the hot-shot fighter pilot in the first of the new movies, the one with the cute rolling droid.
Apparently he made such an impression on me that I just didn't notice him (I rarely notice secondary characters in the Star Wars movies, particularly if I've only seen them once).

Yeah given that Chalamet (who will play Paul) is not that much younger to visually pass as his son. Now in universe is of course another thing since Spice slows down aging and being the leader of a House Leto would have access to tons of it so he could be in his 50s but visually look like being in the mid 30s.

However i really like Isaacs so this is good news to me.

It's a 16-year difference, but Chalamet looks younger than he actually is so I don't have a problem with it. Plus I can see make-up making Isaac look a little older if necessary.

Apparently they are moving away from an unknown middle eastern actress/model for Chani. Zendaya (someone called it super early in the thread) is negotiating for it.

Someone earlier in the thread suggested her as Princess Irulan, which I thought was great. But having her as Chani is also really great. Maybe even better, as Chani has a larger role than Irulan, in the novel anyway.

That is the stupidest casting thing to date. I guess being the worst actor in a Spider-Man film and one of the 10,000 nearly identical mediocre Disney Channel child stars really qualifies her for the role :vulcan: I can't wait until they hire someone like Lady Gaga to play Gurney Halleck.

I mean, I get that the movie was never going to be as good an adaptation as the Mini-series, but at this point they're just troll casting shitty b-list celebrities. How can they adapt Dune worse then the extremely incompetent David Lynch? That guy's head was so far up his ass that even a mediocre production should at least beat his adaptation. Based on this casting though, Lynch will be letoff the hook as the having made the worst Dune adaptation.

I'd much rather have her as Chani than Irulan because she's a talented actress and Irulan is a small role. Besides, like I said earlier, I think she's a terrific casting choice as Chani anyways.

Watch the documentary about Jodorowsky's Dune and you'll develop a new appreciation for Lynch's Dune.

I've always recognized that there are many things about Lynch's Dune that are fine and quite a few that are outstanding. It's just that there are many things about it that are not fine!
The ending is what always got to me, though now as I understand it, that was studio interference and not really Lynch's fault.

Yeah, the cop-out ending, the weirding modules, and Bene Gesserit telepathy were big downers for me - the latter two being Lynch's choices I believe. The script could have been better, there was too much verbal exposition, and some of the direction provided unintended comedy. Much of the design aesthetic (apart from the stillsuits and ornithopters), Brian Eno's Prophesy theme, and most of the casting were great though.
