Dukat and Weyoun

M-Red

Commander
Red Shirt
I'm rewatching the Dominion War saga, which means I'm cherrypicking episodes from Seasons 2-5 and then watching most of Seasons 6 and 7. I've also been recording a short synopsis of these episodes and giving them a rating on a 10 scale.

Anyways, I'm midway through Season 6 right now and I've really enjoyed it so far....but I had forgotten how much I liked the interaction between Dukat and Weyoun.

Their contentious relationship is so well written and well played....there's an on-screen charisma between the two characters and it makes it really enjoyable to see the Dominion side of the saga unfold all over again.

They're both sneaky, opportunistic, highly intelligent, and malicious. But neither are one-dimensional villains and depending on the circumstance, they often go about the same goal in very different ways. We get to learn more about their stories and personalities as the series progresses. The Vorta are a great concept and its effectively executed through Weyoun, while Dukat is the personification of the Cardassian dark side. The differences in their allegiances --one to the Founders/life mission and one to species/family --adds another layer to the relationship. They seem as comfortable settling their disputes through direct threats/demands or back-handed compliments....which gives both villains a humorous side and allows them to develop a sort of sibling rivalry while they're in control of DS9.

I'll go back to watching it now (just finished "Sacrifice of Angels") but I wanted to share how much I've enjoyed the Dukat-Weyoun relationship all over again.

I totally agree with you, Weyoun, Dukat and Damar are pretty much everything that got me into DS9. Weyoun and Dukat are by far my favorite villains/characters, while Damar stands very closely as favorite everything.

I agree as well. Dukat and Weyoun are hands down the best villians Trek has ever produced. I even loved the direction they took Dukat in the final two seasons, even though I know a lot of people don't share that opinion.

I've been doing that too, picking out some of my favourite episodes from earlier seasons, and re-watching most of season 6 and 7. The scenes w/ Weyoun and Dukat are priceless... although I am one of the people who didn't like what they did to poor Dukat in season 7.

I loved the way that they were essentially at a stalemate. Dukat did a very good job of outmanoeuvring Weyoun at times only to be reminded that he needed to "know his place". In essence, he behaved exactly like a Cardassian military officer in his position would in nearly any circumstance (going on the evidence presented in DS9 episodes and the novels), and he did an absolutely excellent job of it, which leads me to believe that had it not been Dukat that Weyoun was dealing with he would have run roughshod over them. (Broca anyone?)

Genius stuff.

I didn't disliked the turn he had since his daughter death till the whole turning Bajoran thing, I mean, if I could choose I liked him better as a deluded madman than when he was getting with the Kai. That might have something to do with me not liking Bajorans whatsoever, but I like to think it doesn't.

I loved the last episode, especially when the Pah-Wraiths gave him his natural form back and he was all untouchable. It was a real shame that it all ended up so fast after Sisko arrived, I wouldn't mind another season of Dukat terrorizing the galaxy. ;)

Dukat being surgically altered to appear Bajoran was interesting but a little mishandled imo. And I didn't like super-Dukat over much...

Dukat and Weyoun defiantly have a kind of attitude you don’t usually see in Star Trek villains. For example, Dukat had a good cop, bad cop thing going on like in the episodes were the Dominion took over DS9 and in the episode Waltz, he unlike Damar was able to think less with his fists. He also realized he could have killed Captain Sisko way back at the beginning of the episode but he puts Sisko’s broken arm in a cast and was quite friendly towards Sisko right up to the point when he goes mental and hit Sisko over the head with a pipe. But Weyoun however was always the kind of bad side loyalist, back stabbing character I never really liked. But I really like him because later on he turns into more of a complexes character, probably after Weyoun six. But personally I think (spoilers) Weyoun eights death was a bit over rated. But for Dukat, I think he’s death was better then Weyouns because it was a big dramatic hero self sacrifice death. But, theirs a book or something out their saying Captain Sisko returned, who’s to say Dukat may not return in some way or another.

Dukat and Weyoun are pure gold, as are Dukat + anyone else and Weyoun + anyone else.

It's a shame that broadcast versions of DS9 butcher out most of their wonderful scenes.

It's an even bigger shame that those who have never seen DS9 uncut would have no idea about all the amazing Dukat & Weyoun content that they are missing.

Dukat and Weyoun made excellent character foils for one another, I enjoyed seeing the differences and similarities between their personalities. I don't really like Dukat after he went crazy, but up to and including that point he was one of my favorite villains, definitely evil but also with definite limits to what he would do, although he usually pushed those limits and only did 'good' things when they suited his purpose. I also enjoy Weyoun's attitude..."Yes, I'm responsible for the deaths of thousands of people, but that's no reason not to love me!"

They had a great chemistry indeed. Maybe it's not surprising that Alaimo and Combs (and Casey Biggs) became good friends in real life... Which reminds me... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjtqQJRjNGM :D

Now I have no idea what you are referring to. There are different versions of DS9 episodes?

I'm referring to things like SpikeTV cutting out 2+ minutes or whatnot of every episode of DS9 that they air. First to go in those butcherings are amazing scenes like Dukat explaining his motivations to Weyoun.

Those who watch DS9 on channels like that certainly ain't getting complete versions of the episodes.
