DS9: Too Long a Sacrifice (IDW)

The Betazoid investigator sent at the end of the last issue mentions the current situation on Betazed, with the Dominion forces building station Sentok Nor in orbit. This is a direct reference to The Battle of Betazed novel, where that was the station Crell Moset was doing his Jem’Hadar experiments on.
Ah, neat!

Retlaw is "Walter", spelled backwards, as in retlaw plant (TAS), the Filmation episode written by Walter Koenig. One drawing of Retlaw in #3 was reminiscent of an older Koenig, but in the next few panels the likeness was way off. So it probably wasn't meant to be him.

Comixology doesn't have a pre-order page up for #4, but they do have one for the collection, which is supposed to be released on December 30th. I assume #4 will be out some time before the collection comes out.

Issue 4's cover.

So I see Odo from Apocalypse Rising, Bashir from Nor the Battle to the Strong, and Odo from Crossover. (Hey, why is Mirror Odo on the cover? ;)) Kira from probably a promo photo, and Quark maaaybe from Necessary Evil?
I can't immediately ID the Sisko shot or the holding cell shot, although the latter does seem familiar.

Why ID the shots at all? 'Cause I'm a bored nerd, what's it to ya?

The UK omnibus in paperback is out on 12th January, the same day as the DS9 Illustrated Handbook from Eaglemoss. Nice!

I just read the collected edition of this. The story's pretty good; I like the way it follows up the occupation of Betazed, a thread that was left undeveloped in the show itself. But the art is startlingly poor. Mainly it's the inking, which is sketchy and ugly, but often the composition is poor as well -- for instance, on the page where Odo arrests the Nausicaans, it's hard to tell that they're the Nausicaans because we don't see them clearly until the bottom of the page.

It's weird how often DS9 comics miniseries have problematical art. I recall the Wildstorm ones being pretty rough too.

I liked the art for Divided We Fall, but I dislike the art for the pre-Avatar one so much I haven't been able to convince myself to read it. I don't mind a little more abstract art, but what we got in that one is just ugly.
