ds9 price

I know that this horse has been beat too death, but why in the world is ds9 so darn expensive. I have been watching it on amazon for years and still as of today it is 314 dollars. I know it is star trek and star trek is expensive as a norm, but tng is going down and so is tos. Tng can be bought for less then 30 bucks a season now used and new in some places. Why is ds9 so expensive still?

Just keep checking Amazon.com, but keep your eye on the single seasons instead of the big box.

I bought all of DS9 when the sets hit $31.49 each.

Also, do a Google for Borders online coupons. Borders is regularly doing 40% off a single item coupons and occasionally even a 50% of a single item coupon. If you're a member of the Borders rewards program, then you get an additional 10% off on top of that.

A month or two ago, I used a 50% coupon to get all seven seasons of Voyager for $190.00 (about $27 a set). Months before that, I had used (I think) a 40% coupon to get all seven seasons of DS9 for $230.00 (about $33 a set).

Borders DVD and Bluray prices are usually ridiculous, but searching for those coupons can actually make them pretty good.

Try ebay, I got seasons 1-7 on DVD for $80 i kid you not

some minor scratches but i took them to the dvd rental store and they have a machine for getting rid of scratches, i asked if i could use it and they let me for $10 on all the discs (which was 5 or 6)

Frankly, the DS9 sets are relatively inexpensive when you compare them to, say...the ENT box sets.

I remember getting my DS9 sets through Wal-Mart's online shopping site, back in '08. The price range was $20-$30 a season.

Well this is true when I did my tng buying I bought seasons at a time. I have only looked at the ds9 box set. I will do as you suggest. This being said though the tng box set went down it did not stay at 314.

Did anyone ever use these odd looking asian sites? they offer full box sets for really good prices but I dunno theres something i don't trust about them.

Sor I have the box set of the x-files, Stargate SG1, now I need to get DS9 and the TOS :) btw Hi im new here :)

Your instinct is right. Those are not only bootlegs (you know, so the Triades can make some easy money on the side apart from child pornography), but from what I've heard they're of extremely low quality.

I paid $10 - $25 used for DS9 per season at FYE about 5 years ago and most of them were BRAND NEW with a USED sticker slapped on them! The ones that really were used were in pristine shape with nary a scratch on any disc.

I bought the DS9 box sets as they were released and paid one hundred dollars for each one. I would not have paid any where near that much money for any other show except perhaps TOS..

Yeah simply do not buy the entire collection at once because most of them have special items or extras in them so hence the price however as other people already mentioned it is best to buy the season each individually you would save a lot of money as we all have :)

I monitor Amazon, checking every couple of day for used copies. Used doesn't necessarily mean USED. Often I can pick up a set for cheap and in good to mostly-new condition. It's like fishing, though...you have to be looking at the right time. I even force myself to go into Wal-mart because occasionally they'll sell a season of one of the shows for $20. That's how I got the first seasons of Enterprise and Voyager.

The bootleg Asian sets have had all sorts of problems. Poor quality, episode endings cut off, etc. And of course, if you are not happy with them, you can forget about complaining or getting your money back. You have to start all over again, thus only compounding your total outlay.

Buying the bootlegs are a really bad idea.

For that kind of money you might as well import the R2 DVDs - £10 each on most online shops.

^ Careful though: The R2 sets of DS9 seasons 4 and 6 are edited.

Also on DS9-R2, many shots (mostly effect shots like the Defiant entering the wormhole in the title credits) have a "stuttering" effect, and many dark scenes in seasons 6 and 7 have a weird grainy quality - victims of a very, very sloppy NTSC to PAL conversion. The R1 releases are fine in that regard.
