DS9 on blu ray?

More 'buy the TNG Blu-ray' non-sense:

(Off topic, but if you are hoping for a DS9 remastered project, unfortunately everyone who was asked was sticking to the company line - it will depend on sales of the TNG Blu Rays. Not very positive unfortunately).

Agree completely.

Honestly, we've had too many of these kinds of statement over the last few years. I've bought all of the TNG blu-rays day one, including the "movies." But stringing people along with what seems like mostly false hope at this point seems borderline animal cruelty: "Have the treat! Took it away! Have the Treat! Took it Away! Have the Treat! Whoops—threw it all the way in a salt mine and you'll never see it again for the rest of your life!! Ah! HA! HA! Ha!"

Jerks.

I think they would sell more TNG if they put out an announcement now that they were doing DS9 so as to keep up the momentum going, and maybe they could keep a shred of goodwill with the fans. As it is, they are pissing off loyal fans with statements like this imho....

Whenever you have people saying that you have to buy X to get Y, it means not enough people are buying X to get Y and it's too late to change that.

Unless the threshold of starting up the DS9 project hinged on those thousand-or-so people in the audience (who probably already bought it) buying it.

"Best of set!!!" LOL

I know---- I'm the only one who'd buy it.

Maybe if they could sell 100 units at $90,000.00 dollars a piece.

F-it just do the live action and upscale the FX.

"Best of set!!!" LOL.....

Actually, I think this is a potentially good idea. Your selection turned DS9 into something like the longest and greatest sci fi miniseries in history.

I'd buy it, and give gifts of it to friends and family members.

But as to your other idea, I really don't they think they are going to just upscale the FX. That would look like total cra*. And for good or ill Sci fi is sold in large part on FX. But CGI is a lot cheaper than it used to be, and it might be possible to reuse some of the overbuilt old files.

But this is probably the bottom line imho: CBS needs a sugar daddy, or it's dead, Jim.

They had a sugar daddy for TOS from HD-DVD,.

The had a sugar daddy for TNG from the deals with Netflix and Amzn Prime.

They probably feel like they "need" someone to give them a big part of the cost of the rebuild to do DS9 for it to happen. I just hope they are actually out there pitching this, instead of hoping it just magically happens like the tooth fairy, easter bunny, Santa Claus, etc.

Wish they'd just put out an announcement one way or another so that we could stop worrying about it....

I agree with the fact upscale FX would look poor, but the exterior FX make up what % of any given DS9 episode?

I care a lot more about the live action than the FX space shots.

Of course, I'd like to see the whole series AND all the FX upgraded to 1080p, but if a quality, class HIT show like X-Files can go HD with up-scaled FX---then I'm not too proud to say I'd accept it presented in that way.

It is doubtful there will be DS9 on Blu Ray. The sales of TNG just do not warrant it.

Why doesn’t CBS test the waters by releasing a DS9 sampler disc similar to the 3-episode TNG sampler disc that was released at the very beginning of the TNG blu-ray project?

I'd buy it day 1.

I'd vote for "Emissary" 2-parter and
"Way of the Warrior" 2-parter.

I think after seeing those in HD---there'd be some pretty nice buzz.

You may well be right. But then why doesn't CBS just release a statement to fans saying that DS9 is not being rebuilt. I know, I know, the don't care about us, just our money.

I can't see them doing that.

Companies don't make announcements for products they DON'T plan on making.

I think they are letting the NON announcement of DS9 following up their lauded TNG Blu-ray release speak for itself.

And buying the TNG sets at this point won't change things.

we'll never know how bad the awful sound mix-up of season 1 affected sales.

To this day, season 1 sells for $25-$30 less than all other seasons because (IMO) of the stigma and fear you'll be sent one of the "old" defective sets.

Probably a couple of reasons, they want to keep their options open and don't want to compromise potential sales of Blu-ray sets they are still producing.

The suggestion that we show interest in Star Trek series remaster projects by buying blurays is not the same thing as saying you have to buy X to get Y. Fans have read too much into it, just as they've read too much into "we currently have no plans for DS9."

"we currently have no plans for DS9." is not the same as say,
"we currently have no plans for a new Trek TV series."----
because TV as a medium is not going anywhere.

Blu-ray, like Beta, VHS, Laserdisc and DVD is something that won't be around forever.

They've said nothing definite but as more time passes it will be less likely--that is a fact.

It's more likely we'll see it on Blu-ray in 2016 than in 2018 and more likely we'll see it on Blu-ray in 2018 than in 2020 etc.

We might see it happen but the more time passes, the less likely we'll see the full ground up restoration that TNG got.
