DS9 on blu ray?

I just did a search on the SyFy website (US), and this was the result. It's all at once humorous, ironic and sad:

Pfft. Who wants to watch a dinosaur show like Star Trek when there's such quality programming as Mega Python vs. Gatoroid, Mega Shark vs. Mecha Shark, Airplane vs. Volcano and Asteroid vs. Earth

So, AGT got released in Germany recently.
Another nail into the coffin of the HD project, as they released it with the wrong title!!!!!
It was released as "Alle guten Dinge" which is a word-by-word translation of the original title.
That would be ok, if the final TNG episode wasn't known here by "Gestern, Heute, Morgen" ("Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow")!!

Well, you can't blame them for going back to a well translated title. Really, I don't know why german episode names always have to be so different, not to mention wooden and sometimes completely inappropriate if not downright stupid.

Wasn't Relics called something like Scotty Travels Forward to the 24th Century in German? I did see the exact English translation on the web somewhere once. It was unintentionally hilarious.

I have no idea, but it sounds like something they would have done. I am avoiding german Trek at all costs. Star Trek must be one of the worst translated tv shows in german history. TOS at least got the voices pretty close to the original, even though the translation was still crappy. TNG voices were okay, but DS9 and Voyager were absolutely horrible!

Not quite. “Relics” is “Besuch von der alten Enterprise”, which translates to “Visit from the Old Enterprise”. Though needlessly different, it's an okay title, if you ask me. There are far worse ones.

The VOY dub job was actually pretty good not in terms of content (which was okay-ish) but in terms of cast. Kate Mulgrew's voice was actually pretty spot-on, or at least as close as you can get. Her voice is quite unique, after all ;)

TNG sales were called "dismal" by one of the people who worked on it.
I did my part and bought all seven seasons of TNG on Blu-ray (and even on DVD, years ago), so I feel entitled to the opportunity to acquire DS9 on Blu-ray.

^ Nobody's "entitled" to anything in this life. If the numbers just don't add up on a broad scale, then it simply isn't going to happen. There's nothing we can do about that.

As much as I want DS9 remastered, TREK fans and consumers spoke. Sadly, just not enough support for the restoration effort.

:(:(

OOOh, I bought seasons 1-5 of TNG on BD (and DVD), so I guess I can expect my DS9 BDs of S1-5 to arrive very soon at my home... :rommie:

@TheEditDoctor Not at all. I DO NOT speak for CBS. I'm voicing MY OWN opinion. That's all.

@robertmclaws I don't think CBS did enough to educate consumers about just how extensive the restoration effort actually was.

Robert Meyer Burnett ‏@BurnettRM 28m28 minutes ago

@robertmclaws the marketing efforts should've been as extensive as the restoration. Sadly not the case.

@robertmclaws Also, the premium price didn't help.

@War_of_Kings TNG took over three years to complete and DS9 would take longer. Physical media will no longer be a factor.

@RobGirvan A huge jump. The CG in the later seasons is very problematic to recreate.

^Didn't Rob Bonchune pull out an old shot from DS9 and re-rendered it at 1080 for TrekCore a while back? And it looked pretty good from what I remembered.

While I doubt every shot can be found and re-rendered with such ease, has work been done to at least find out if the CG is that problematic?

EDIT: Here's the article in question: http://trekcore.com/blog/2013/05/deep-space-nine-in-high-definition-one-step-closer/

In summary, it suggests that the process of rediscovering and re-rendering old assets shouldn't present that much of an issue.

It's funny...I've been introducing friends to Trek (we're in the movies now), and one of them asked what was next, and after I said TNG, he asked whether we'd be starting at the beginning since he'd heard seasons 1-2 weren't very good.

Regardless of how good they are, I haven't seen them in a very long time, probably since they originally aired in some cases, and I very much want to experience the remastered episodes.

Plus, even if they aren't so great (YMMV), they're a part of fully experiencing Trek the way TMP may not be a great film but is still an essential part of the viewing experience, in that you need to see it to understand the development of the franchise.
