Drydock, TOS style...thoughts?

You'll have to forgive me if I disagree.

Vector's spartan, or simplistic design works better for a TOS-era drydock.

Madman's Prime Alternative looks more like a Phase II-era and above to me.

I totally agree. Vektor´s drydock has all the recognizable elements from TOS.
Madman's drydock is an excellent concept, but fits in the "Prime alternative Universe" or as a pre-Phase II, but surely not in TOS-era.

Well, here is the drydock that I noodled around with years back. I was trying to go for something that looked like it could have been modeled in 1967.

Interesting design, slightly reminiscent of a naval dockyard.

They would probably have had to use the 33" model though, I can't see the 11-footer holding up well on those little support legs! :)

Wow, I like this a lot. I especially like the crane / arms up above like that.

Hey Tallguy,
I really want to look at your thumbnails as they look amazing but Photobucket is saying there is an error.

Can you rectify?

Thanks!
:)

How odd. I can open them even from your post. Not sure what I could do...

Love it. Looks like it could be in space, or imbedded in the ground. :techman:

That's actually my least favorite aspect of it, the way it seems to be supporting the ship from below as if the ship were under gravity. What's cool about the TMP drydock and its successors is that they're open on the underside, which really sells the idea that they're designed for space.

I went with under just because I didn't want to do over because all the other docks have been over. I toyed with doing sideways.

What are those blue things connected to the secondary hull? At first I thought they force beams or something of the like, but maybe they're solid?

^Yes, the blue part is clearly a solid support frame -- which seems redundant in free fall, but maybe it's just to anchor the ship in place relative to the dock, a simpler alternative to the hexagonal tractor-beam emitters of the TMP drydock.
