Because a Pike show would blow a Section 31 show out of the water. I think they jumped the gun on trying to get several Trek shows going and didn't realize how popular Pike and the Enterprise was going to be.

More popular than Michelle Yeoh globally? You have to understand there's a whole world beyond your fan bubble.

ETA: What's with the idea that it's either one or the other? Don't like the idea of a Section 31 show existing? Don't watch it when it comes out. Simple.

While I like Michelle Yeoh (The only time I saw her before was Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), Star Trek in itself is more popular globally than she is. Maybe she can bring some flying Kung Fu to Trek!

Given the choice between Section 31 and Pike, I choose Pike. Even if they do produce a Section 31 show, I'd rather see a Pike show first and Section 31 several years down the road. In my opinion, Anson Mount stole Season 2 of Discovery, not Michelle Yeoh. How much did her global appeal help there?

I'm glad global appeal doesn't effect what you think, or we'd be the Borg. But are you the only person CBS All Access should cater to? No. This is the 21st Century. CBS wants series that appeal to more than just the United States. Captain Pike is as All American as you can get.

Why do you even have to choose? Why can't both exist and you only watch one? Should the Star Trek series you want to watch be the only ones that exist?

As much as I'm sure I'd enjoy a Section 31 show, if only to see Michelle Yeoh regularly kicking ass on a weekly TV schedule, I'd probably want to see a Pike show more. Then when that inevitably runs its course, commit to it and reboot TOS.

Says who? Did you poll Asia?

Besides, what does this have to do with dropping her for Anson Mount? She's a larger draw than he is.

Here is the thing: I LOVE grey characters! I would watch the hell out of a MARVEL Bucka Barnes/Winter Soldier-show. And this is the guy that killed Tony Stark's parents! But that is a "grey" character done well. Georgiou is a cartoonishly black character, suddendly turned cartoonishly white, with a big dose of "cool"/snark-factor.
That's not a grey character at all - he was brainwashed at the time and everyone has come to understand that those weren't his willing actions.

Georgiou is a grey character. She'll murder thousands and commit atrocities without a second throught, but she loves Michael. And it's for Michael (and only for Michael) she's on the side of "good".

I don't think that makes her lead character material in a show without Michael, but we will see.

That's not grey. That's pitch black. Hitler loved his dog Goldie so much it became a meme. That doesn't make him "good" or "grey". A monster having some redeeming qualities doesn't make it "grey", it just fleshes out the character.

And no - everybody around Michael seems to know as well - including the oh-so enlightened gouvernment of the Federation that thinks "hey, that's a good person to hand the keys to the galaxy's most dangerous black ops organisation".

Well, if the poll so far is any indication, that'll likely be a big 4% tuning in. :)

You forgot about the other options that the votes of people who want to watch the series about S31 were split into. Why doesn't that surprise me? Apart from that, so far fewer people have participated in this survey than even those voting for the grade 10 in the thread about the last episode of the second series. So it's not worth to draw any conclusions from this survey except that a small part of fans on this ST forum doesn't like S31.

I want Pilke over section 31 but I would certainly check out a section 31 show. Who knows? It might be good stuff.

Yes, I agree. I believe the Star Trek universe is big enough to handle both shows.
