Well like Bob said in the other thread, I've never read a Judge Dredd comic in my life so I couldn't tell you how faithful it is. I can tell you it's a shitload of fun. Dredd kinda felt like a combination of Nolan's Batman and Rorschach, but better, total badass.

This is what the recent lacklustre Total Recall remake should have been like. Some great Verhoeven style violence.

Also, not gonna lie, I did spend a lot of the movie thinking Olivia Thrilby looked exactly like porn star Lily LaBeau :)

I did spend most of the film thinking she reminded me of someone. It wasn't the porn star though because I have no idea who she is. And only having the vaguest knowledge of Judge Dredd but it felt to me to be fairly spot on for how I'd expect it to be.

To be honest with the trailer focusing on the slow mo and the graphic violence I wasn't expecting it to be much more than a high violence B-Movie so I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the film. Given all the behind the scenes strife I've read about it's especially surprising that it turned out to be so good.

Quite a gamble releasing it so early in one part of the world. Bad word of mouth could sink it before it comes out worldwide.

Wasn't too bad.

Parts didn't fit with what I seem to remember of the comics, but other than I had fun. Parts of it did remind me of The Raid but that's been said by various people when the trailer came out.

Edit - With regards to Anderson, I may have seen her in Juno and The Darkest Hour, though I don't remember her in either

Oh, the big nitpick I had with it was the whole idea of Slo-mo making time pass at 1% normal speed. They seriously underestimated how slow that is, if 1% was corrected then 6 seconds would be 10 minutes

Saw it today. It was outstandingly great. May have to go see it again.

Thinking about it, I got a huge Mass Effect vibe for big chunks of the film too in terms of atmosphere and style. Which is only ever a good thing.

I saw it yesterday. It's a solid, well made, very violent and darkly funny action movie. I would love to see a sequel with a bigger budget and a bigger stor to allow them to really go to town with it. Urban is perfect as Dredd. A real cracker!

Went tonight and was more than impressed, the film had al ot going for it. Karl Urban was fantastic as Dredd and the action scenes were superbly done. The 3D was probably the worst part of the movie, I took my glasses off at times and I swear parts of the movie were 2D. Also the 3d glasses make the film look a little darker which takes away from some of the fantastic vibrant colour the director uses in certain scenes...

Hope for a sequel but a more 2D orintated sequel since it seems a tough task to find any showins in 2D.

The director has already said he plans on trying to do this as a trilogy with more elements from the comics incorporated into second and third movies.

So how much of the movie is made up of "The Raid"? Is there a decent amount of story here or is it mostly an action set piece?

I saw it yesterday and loved it, it was so badass. There were a couple of bits I didn't like, but overall it was fun and violent and a load of "oh wow that's awesome" moments.

A couple of girls I went with hated it. I don't know what they were expecting

I voted good, though I don't think that quite does it justice (arf arf) but I don't think it quite rated excellent. Will probably do a more in-depth review on my blog but suffice to say, that's a Dredd film (and I have a soft spot for Stallone.) Urban is spot on, and Thirlby was great as well.

Saw this today, went in with low expectations as trailer wasn't inspiring.

Seriously Awesome movie, great directing, real gritty violent feel (a rare 18 certificate), Lena Headey was super as the villain, Urban started off slowly but got much better as it went on and killed it at the end with his line of "Yeah".

Nice enclosed story, can't wait what they do with a bigger budget....

Completely action. Back of a cigarette packet depth story.

But pretty good. Running around, shooting, and futuristic weapons. What it said on the tin. 3D didn't add or detract much.

Kinda surprised at the great reviews this has been getting. I figured it would be just another generic scifi remake.
