Downton Abbey series 6.

I'm glad Edith got her happy ending, even if Mary had a hand in it (I guess she had to be redeemed...bleah, she's still awful).

After a season of woe is Thomas, they finally actually managed to make him somewhat likable in the end. Still better than Mrs. O'Brien, I suppose.

Even though it was never confirmed, I like to think Mr. Mosley and Miss Baxter became a couple in the end.

It was a very Downton ending, everyone lived happily ever after! The line between servant and family is so blurred it's basically non-existent at this point; why wouldn't you let your ladies maid give birth in your bed?
While I think it's a shame the series always ducked out of actually dealing with the dying of the aristocracy (apart from the occasional grumble from Carson about his reducing staff), it ended nicely and with an appropriate send-off for each character so I can't complain really.

Yeah, that's what I like to imagine, too. I guess the writers felt (and maybe rightfully so) there were already enough happy couples in the final episode. Still, it would have been nice to see them talk about their feelings for each other.

Another thing I would have loved to know was the fate of Michael Gregson. Sure, the finale would have been too late to bring him back, but actually knowing he died and merely guessing it are two different things.

All in all, though, I loved the finale. It's nice to see a series ending (1.) on it's high point and (2.) on such a positive note.

This evening, I watched Gosford Park for the umpteenth time and found myself realizing that I far prefer the film over the series that it inspired. Sure, it lacks some of Maggie Smith's finer biting comments, but it's such a tightly written, acted and directed film with a phenomenal cast from top to bottom. That's not to say Downton Abbey wasn't well made, but at the end of the day, it's a high-class soap opera and sometimes things got a bit ridiculous.

Incidentally, it turns out Maggie Smith isn't the only Gosford Park alum to later show up on Downton Abbey. Jeremy Swift, who played Spratt for the last three seasons, was Arthur, one of the footmen, who kept volunteering to be the temporary valet for Ivor Novello. Also, Richard E. Grant, the first footman, showed up for a few episodes as Simon Bricker, the painting evaluator (I think that's who he was).

We do know he died. The body was identified in series 5.

^ Oh, you are right, I forgot about that. However, I always felt they left the door open for him to return. His identified body could have been a case of mistaken identity. Looking it up now, I can see I'm not the only one online who thought it possible for him to return in the last minute.

I did like Micheal but Berite is such a sweetie pie I don't want Edith with anyone else.
Also loved the fact they mentioned he also a millionaire.
It was such a shame Mary was not at the Brancaster dinner she would have been a little jealous of all the footmen Edith now has:lol:.

I was pretty happy with the ending other than with the Jekyl and Hyde Thomas getting the butler position.

What I had really wanted with happiness for Edith, and Isobel and Merton to get together. It was nice to see Violet own Merton's son and d-i-l. She's the best!

Although I did think they were killing off Merton. Glad they didn't.

Yay for happy endings. And no, I didn't care about Mary being pregnant. She was always just a snooty bitch. Never did like her.

I would not mind one more Christmas special set at Brancaster with just Edith and Bertie.
I just don't care about Mary one bit which with her being the star of the show made watching it a bit hard at times.

I haven't seen it yet, but it's impossible to avoid spoilers, so I don't really care. :)

Those are two of the three things I wanted from the series. The third was for Mary to die horribly of syphilis, but Fellowes would never do anything like that to his favorite character.

After Sherlock last night, PBS showed a half-hour Salute to Downton Abbey special, recapping the previous five seasons and previewing the final season, hosted by Hugh Bonneville.

Of the thirty minutes, ten of them were centered on Lady Edith. And Laura Carmichael talked about her character.

This is going to be shallow, but sacre bleu, she's gorgeous out of the make-up and hairstyle. And her natural accent is endlessly charming.

I think I'm in love. :)

I always thought Laura Carmichael was incredibly beautiful, with our without the makeup/costume/hairdo. It was a weird choice to make her the “ugly duckling” of the three sisters.

A pie in her face would have sufficed. *grin*
There's an unfinished crossover fanfic between Downton Abbey and Firefly (yes, the author finds a way to make it work)... and as far as the story's gotten, Mary's not making out too well with finding a rich, civilized suitor.
