Don't suppose there's a chance season two will be a visual re-reboot.

Saru will sport a beard in season 2.
Of course

The OP didn't really specify what kind of reboot. I agree that making it look like TOS is out of the question, but could there be a possibility of toning down the stylistic choices (blue lighting, lots of bloomy glows) and change to a more naturalistic approach? Would be nice to actually be able to tell the shapes of ships!

A lot of TOS colors and brighter lighting would be a nice start. The computer screen in Lorca's ready room displayed multicolored indicator lights in the episode where Saru brings up the list of the most decorated Captains in Starfleet history and the indication from the producers is that the show will gradually look more and more like the TOS era as it goes along, but at this point I'd be happy with more buttons and blinky lights that are colored like those on TOS console interfaces. We know it's not going to end up looking just like TOS, but more nods like ENT did with its bridge and computer displays would be a very nice gesture.

It is odd that Bashir wouldn't be aware of the Augment virus, given that he himself is genetically engineered. I would assume he would have extensive knowledge of genetic engineering in human history, especially since it had an impact on Klingons. Of course, any fan could just claim Bashir was playing dumb.

Real life answer is: The writers had not yet made Bashir genetically engineered by the airing of the tribble episode, and the ENTERPRISE episode didn't air until a decade later.
Why does everyone assume characters would have knowledge/recall of events that happened more then a century earlier (in Universe)?

Yeah man, they were. The reality is, something like that was not gonna be made by a major studio as its designed to lose money. Its the realm of fan stuff where its done out of love or enjoyment and not profit.

I misunderstood the post you were responding to, so just ignore that.

I don't, I merely assume Bashir, a product of genetic engineering, would have some extensive knowledge of humanity's dabbling. Aside from Dax, I could believe the othere are somewhat ignorant of that subject.

But would he admit to it?

Although to be fair, Julian didn't even recognize that Starfleet officers of the TOS era wore gold for command and red for ship's services and engineering. If he didn't remember the basic uniforms that his forebears a century earlier wore then his ignorance of the Augment virus affecting the Klingons suddenly makes a little more sense.

And frankly, I'd be a lot more embarrassed that he didn't even know the basic department colors of the 2260s when one of the most famous Starfleet officers in history wore one of them during his most legendary five-year mission of exploration. Did he never see a photograph or hologram of Captain Kirk during his years at the Academy and in Starfleet medical training?

It makes more sense to me that Bashir wouldn't know trivial things like uniform colors from a century ago but would know something about humanity's dabbling in genetic engineering.

But again, that episode was produced before the writers decided to add that to his character.

I'm expecting something along those lines. Virtually every science fiction show (and a lot of TV shows in general) do things up a bit between seasons, as they see what looked good on screen and what didn't. The Battlestar Galactica sets were very overlit and flat-looking in the miniseries compared to how they were shot in the first season. On Stargate: Atlantis, the Puddle Jumper set was massively redone for the second season, and further enhanced for the third. The TNG bridge had the wall panels and chairs replaced, and in the first couple episodes after DS9 switched to the new uniforms, Sisko wore his zipped up to his throat and with his commbadge on the shoulder. That's not even getting into movie sequels, which as often as not seem to have a borderline contempt for their predecessor's production design and can't replace stuff fast enough.

I'm not expecting them to demolish all the sets and start over from scratch, or completely replace their stock of 3D models (though, again, the Stargates had the odd practice of using multiple VFX houses, each of which seemed to make their own models from scratch which didn't necessarily match each other), but given the troubled production history and controversial reception, I wouldn't be surprised if in, say, five years a reasonably practiced eye would be able to distinguish random screencaps of the same set from season one and season two, just like you can tell at a glance whether an episode of TNG is from season one, two, or later based on the uniforms and Riker's beard.
