Don't Hassle the Hoff

Jesus, it's a fucking roast! Are people really watching them expecting subtle, understated wit, or jokes that really make you think? The whole point is celebs getting ripped a new one.

Exactly. Everyone who is on the show expects to get ripped. Its part of the fun, you take your lumps then dish out some of your own. Nobody is safe, and the more outrageous the better.

Most of the stars do it for charity, which is why these Comedy Central ones have very different people being roasted.

And I think Lisa Lamponelli is hilarious!! She makes fun of EVERYONE, no one is safe. Saw her last special on CC and haven't laughed that hard ever. God shes great. :guffaw:

I've no problem with them ripping into the guest-of-honor. I get that is the point of the roast. What I don't get is that all of the jokes have to be crude, vulgar, and vile. I'm all fine with crude, vile, humor but give me some variety. I think it's possible to rip on someone without always refering to sex or scat.

Just out of curiosity, did you actually watch the roast? Because it was on again last night, and there were some vulgar jokes here and there, but for the most part it was all typical stand-up humor.

"What a lucky break. What are the odds an alcoholic gets cast in a show about a car that drives itself?"

"You're so drunk, when alcohol does its taxes, it lists you as a dependent."

(to Seth McFarlane) "It's got to be hard for him to do a roast, especially because The Simpsons hasn't done it yet."

"If a bomb were to hit the stage tonight, the world would lose... a bomb."

I did watch it and I laughed many times, I only FF'd through Lisa's bit the jokes weren't as OTT and vulgar as the jokes in the "Shatner Roast" so, yeah, The Hoff roast was funny and not as vulgar as other roasts I've seen of CC's but I still would've liked to have seen a bit more broad scope of humor.

i watched a couple segments... some was funny, most was painful... actually, most of the time was spent ripping on the other comedians... and i use that word lightly...

most jokes told were vague enough that they could have been about any d-list celeb. oh, pam anderson skipped this roast, not a problem just use a different name in your "pannelist is a whore" material and no one will notice.

it's like comedy mad libs... Larry David and Ricky Gervais

Yeah, that's the problem I had with these roasts, not enough roasting on the Hoff, you know, the guy you've been advertising you're going to rip into for the last two months?

Every roast I've ever seen has the format of the roaster first doing everyone else on the panel and then ending with the roastee.

Gotta go at the other guests a little, though, otherwise it comes across as too mean-spirited. Going after everyone lets the guest of honor laugh a little at the people attacking him. Same reason he goes after them in the 'response' section, to show there's no hard feelings...

When I heard that The Hoff was getting a roast, I knew he'd be perfect and that I'd be in for something good. Well, I recorded it and finally got around to watching it. It was raunchy and brutal. They didn't hold anything back and I laughed out loud. They really made fun of Hasselhoff's drinking. I know they were joking around, but they gave the sense that it was really bad. If that's the case, that's something I wasn't totally aware of. I've never found Pam Anderson appealing, but she was actually somewhat hot. And so was Whitney Cummings. I'm surprised that they'd make fun of her looks. She's actually quite attractive. Overall, another roast well done.
