Donny's Refit Enterprise Interiors (Version 2.0)

Spent the day remastering the texture I made back in 2014 for one of the most prominent of the TMP/TWOK/TSFS "Datapads" (since I dare not call it a PADD in this era)

Reference (this thing was everywhere)

Far left:

A seldom seen white on black version:

Yes, even one of Khan's henchman had use of it:

Awesome job!

This reminds me of the Eddie Izzard bit about Star Trek, where he goes, "there's a lot of clipboard work."

In the novels, the TOS clipboard thingies are called "data slates." That might work here.
It's funny, I once wrote a story for a TOS fan fiction website where the editor insisted they be called "compuclipboards" (he very correctly pointed out that PADDs were TNG-era things). And I was like, nobody would really call it that for the same reason we don't call cars "automobiles" in everyday conversation. He agreed to let me call it a "slate".

What were those things even supposed to be? Some kind of machine calibration device? They do say calibration at the bottom but them being totally static is beyond me.

I was wondering the same thing. There's no response interface...

My thought is that they're like universal remotes. One of those brilliant ideas that seemed great in the 2270s (like transporter dressing machines, thanks Christopher!) which weren't completely adopted but still hung around long enough to be necessary in fringe cases.

Wait, you mean people don't use universal remotes anymore? I've gotten a lot of use out of the one that came with my cable box -- so much so that I was grateful I didn't have to return it when I canceled my cable. (It's the only remote that still lets me mute my speakers, since the mute button contact on the receiver remote corroded from overuse.)

I still love the concept that Captain Kirk is just giving autographs to the crew all day. :guffaw:

Don't forget the Red and Grey one! That one saw some pretty wide use too!

I'm actually kind of embarrassed that I never noticed the white and black one before to be honest lol

Good eye!

Oh I’ll be doing many more datapad variants tonight, actually.

@ashefivekay, here ya go!

This is the "hero" dataslate/datapad/PADD/Feinberger board of TMP. The ones I will be modeling following this one were all just vaccuformed plastic with different graphics painted on, but this one has working lights and brass or copper surface details that the others don't. AND, it's wedge shaped whereas the rest were flat.

Oh! For anyone wondering, the reason I'm modeling these now is because I think it would be nice to have one or two lying around the lounge.

Reference:

You can see it sitting on the table here when McCoy leave's Kirk's quarters (it oddly isn't there earlier in the scene)
