Does the United States still exist in the 23rd century?

I wish the Optimum Movement were canon. It would tie into the further eugenics experiments of the early-to-mid 21st century alluded to by both PIC and SNW and give us an organization that would embody both the darkest legacy of the Eugenics Wars and the dangers of narcotics.

Since a lot of stuff from the novels has been turning up onscreen lately, we may well get our wish for an appearance by the Optimum at some point.

I'd LOVE to see who they'd get to play Adrik Thorsen...

At one point ENT was going to use the triangular symbol seen on the soldiers' uniforms in 2079 but the idea was dropped.

Just as post-monarchical countries like Germany and Greece still have members of their former royal families who claim titles I'm sure Trek Era Britain also has Windsors who claim ties to a King or Queen from centuries before.

SISKO: You realise that caste-based discrimination goes against the Federation charter. If Bajor returns to the D'jarra system, I have no doubt that its petition to join the Federation will be rejected.

Even if there's no power, land, trappings, subjects or money, it could be "illegal" int he Federation for the Queen of Denmark to point out to anyone that she is the Queen of Denmark.

That's a good point -- if caste-based discrimination is illegal under the Federation Charter, that could well mean that even ceremonial monarchies are Charter violations. Whatever form the British state might take under the Federation, it might well be that it is legally obliged to be a republic under the Charter.

We got a modern run down of what Colonel Green was thinking in Enterprise.

It wasn't about making people superhuman, it was about cockblocking every one
When did France stop being a country? We have references to it as late as 2032. And of course Picard calls himself a Frenchman.

What was Germany's plans for France in the 1940s?

"Legally" during the third Reich, Nazi Lawyers rewrote reality to take land where every they had tanks.

France was a different France, and Chatteux Picard was a Nazi Base, which is why the Picards left.

If the Germans had won, there is nothing about what they were planning online, but a Greater Germanic empire involving a unified Europe all the way to Britain is not out of the question.

An Englishman's Castles is a 70s English Show about decades after the Germans won the war, which has very little to do with what we are talking about, but it is gripping.

Q said "...where humans learned to control their military with drugs." There must be some organization doing that controlling. And the most likely candidate is, a government.

In fact, the symbol on the foreheads of the Fourth World soldiers in the courtroom scene was going to turn up in "In a Mirror, Darkly"...as Colonel Green's symbol. So perhaps the court was operated by the Optimum Movement.

Its almost a 1/4 of a century after the bombs dropped.

Whosoevery supplies the meth controls the army.

A local warlord or China for all we know?

The troops look and sound American or at least European in heritage but the court with Asian officials might imply this is connected to the Eastern Coalition(ECON), one of the main combatants in the war.

The official name of the Andorian government is the "Andorian Empire." Although, I don't know whether the name implies the Andorians have an emperor.

ARCHER: You can read minds.
LISSAN: We have a strict law here, Captain. No one may enter another's thoughts without permission. I know your name because the Andorian Chancellor contacted us.
ARCHER: I need to speak with someone in authority.

There's also a legislature.

The Klingons had an Empire for 300 years of the warp era without an Emperor. Definitely possible.

That’s nice, but in in our reality and in Star Trek’s, the Nazis lost and their laws were null and void.

It was a blip.

A blip where the Picard ownership of the chataeux was void.

The Nazis had their own Calendar.

The first moment of positive time was election day 1933.

So in France during the years 1941 to 1944, the years 1941 to 1944 did not even exist.

I imagine it was illegal for tombstones to use the Julian calendar during that period?
