Does Cruise really have a cameo or not?

I've got nothing against Cruise. He can be an entertaining actor. His beliefs are his own business. If he gets a cameo, cool, if not, I won't be disappointed.

So, Tom Cruise does cameos? ;)

The cameos in It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, were cool (for the old farts among us who know who all those people were). I mean, come on: Buster Keaton, Jack Benny, Jimmy Durante, Jerry Lewis, Carl Reiner, Don Knotts, The Three Stooges, and others. Now them's cameos.

Tom Cruise walking across the screen in Star Trek? Meh, either way.

I don't care one way or the other - he's done cameos before without even being noticed (try spotting him in Young Guns)

He did visit the set, but I suspect the cameos will be more like members of the TV casts or something - like Ethan Phillips in First Contact

I like some of Tom Cruise's work. I don't hate or love him...
That being said, I think an extended cameo would taint the film.
But if he is just there, or is the random red shirt that is killed. I am ok with that.

Perhaps it could be like Christain Slater's cameo in Star Trek VI. An alien Starfleet admiral mabey? An Andorian would be cool. Pike gets a transmission from a Starfleet Admiral, the screen turn on, and it's someone you recognize, but not quite sure who he is. That's when you hear whispers in the audience, 'hey, that's Tom Cruise!'

For my money, it would be nice to have some high profile cameos in the movie and not just some random starfleet admiral. There is opportunity to advance the storyline and also contribute to continuity and please the fans.

Of course, to which continuity does the cameo contribute, and to whose storyline does the cameo advance, is another topic.

Cameos are meaningless, really... remember, a cameo is what Mick Fleetwood got during S1 of TNG. Of course, he was under massive bug-eyed fish-guy makeup... which must've been humiliating! Could have been played by a resusci-Annie!

I wouldn't want Cruise (or any other "big name" actor) in a major role in the movie, but I wouldn't mind seeing him in the background someplace... except that, if you're in the theater when that happens, you won't be able to hear the next few moment's worth of dialog!

People - Trekkies especially - should care if His Lordship Tom Cruise is in this movie and its more than a cameo.

This is an actor that has grossed over a billion dollars, an actor who's range, depth and charisma leaves people stunned, an actor who's million dollar smile melts hearts around the world.

Having him in this movie will only help bring our beloved franchise back in to the deserving realm of respectability and generally make this new film more kick ass. Any Trek fan who wants a sustainable Trek franchise knows that you need Tom in this movie and all future ones. Talk about your no brainers...

Ditto!

It's possible that Cruise could be so buried in alien prosthetics that no one would recognize him at all. Doing a cameo for kicks doesn't mean that he'll actually be seen.

Tom Cruise is definitely in it. I have it on Super High Authority (SHA) that Cruise will be playing an actual role and that will be:
Porthos!

Tom Cruise is a good not great actor..most people on this site who hate him do so because of his belief system. Its that simple. The guys rocks in TROPICAL THUNDER!!!! You're just envious that he has zillions of dollars and you still have to shop at walmart and target..losers that you are.

Hey! You leave Target out of this!!

I'm guessing Cruise will be in it because Abrams likes to re-use a stable of actors, and Cruise could use the boost from Abrams' (perhaps short-lived) successes right now. Maybe he'll be the officer that Kirk has to impress for the Kobyashi Maru -- and we get the sense, a la Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, that this incarnation of our young hero was inspired by an encounter with a similar, cocky figure from his early days. I say "this incarnation of . . . " because the TV Kirk was shown to be thoughtful, not cocky, in the earliest episodes, a "stack of books with legs" who was "positively grim" while at the academy, not a high-octane high-school-wrestler type.

Put this in the freakin' bank: if Cruise is in the film, he will play Gary Mitchell.

You heard it here first. Learn it, love it, live it. Gives Cruise an opportunity to return as the character before he got killed by the Shat in WNMHGB.

[Instert random Tom Cruise reference to increase my post count like everyone else]

Lt. Tom Maverick (Cruise) and Ensign Goose at the Helm and Nav console of the Enterprise:

Captain Pike: Lay in a course for Andorian Space. Warp factor 8.4.
Ensign Goose: I feel the need...
Ensign Goose and Lt. Maverick: (together) ...the need for speed!

There. That took my total all-time post count to an even 900.
I would never stoop to quoting someone just to boost my post count!
[redshirt Cruise walks into frame, opens communicator]
RS Cruise: Captain, I see someth-
[dies horrible, violent, fiery death]

:guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:

I love it!
Just like I'd never quote this...
But, yeah, RedShirt Cruise is the only way I'd wanna see him. :vulcan:
