Does Cruise really have a cameo or not?

There seems to be a lot of debate about this, and constant rumors that Cruise visited the set, possibly more than once.

Does anyone here really think that he has a cameo in this, and if so, what would that role be?

And for that matter, does anyone care if Tom Cruise will have a 30-second walk-on?

For the love of God and all that is holy, please, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

....with one exception.....

he's a red shirt....

It wouldn't surprise me if Cruise had a small cameo. It also wouldn't bother me. He's a successful actor, chances are he'd put some butts in the theater seats. His presence certainly wouldn't wreck the movie.

I suppose could support a brief appearance. Something like:
[redshirt Cruise walks into frame, opens communicator]
RS Cruise: Captain, I see someth-
[dies horrible, violent, fiery death]
On and gone in five... ten seconds, tops. Other than that, meh -- I'd just as soon do without.

Didn't Paramount can his ass?

That doesn't mean that Bad Robot can't employ him in a film and pay him scale (or more) for appearing in a movie. Paramount just bought out his contract as a member of their "stable" because of his lunatic goings on and his questionable public comments. Had he not done his couch gymnastics on Oprah he would have been okay with Sumner Redstone.

However, if you were JJ Abrams, who would you want to retain for a couple short cameos, especially if you were changing the timeline to one in which Gary Mitchell and Elizabeth Dehner survive?

Tom Cruise, get out of the Closet!!!!

Tom Cruise is a good not great actor..most people on this site who hate him do so because of his belief system. Its that simple. The guys rocks in TROPICAL THUNDER!!!! You're just envious that he has zillions of dollars and you still have to shop at walmart and target..losers that you are.

If Cruise is in the movie, my money is that he'll play a young cocky guy that rebels against the system in order to vindicate himself. He's never done a part like that, right?

Right?

... or maybe he'll play Cristian (Excuse me Captin Sulu, but if I used the intercom, I wouldn't get this here cameo) Slaters great-great Grandpa!

People - Trekkies especially - should care if His Lordship Tom Cruise is in this movie and its more than a cameo.

This is an actor that has grossed over a billion dollars, an actor who's range, depth and charisma leaves people stunned, an actor who's million dollar smile melts hearts around the world.

Having him in this movie will only help bring our beloved franchise back in to the deserving realm of respectability and generally make this new film more kick ass. Any Trek fan who wants a sustainable Trek franchise knows that you need Tom in this movie and all future ones. Talk about your no brainers.

If you disagree, you're obviously not a Trekkie and probably anti semetic too. Lay off the Jews, they're great people.

Wait....TOM Cruise? Why the heck would he have a cameo in Trek XI?
Because he is a good friend of J.J. Abrams, and he spent a day on the Star Trek set a few months ago. Motive and opportunity.

Although I would wager that he ISN'T in this.

Either way, I don't mind.

As long as he doesn't jump up and down on the captains chair we'll be good.

[Instert random Tom Cruise reference to increase my post count like everyone else]

Lt. Tom Maverick (Cruise) and Ensign Goose at the Helm and Nav console of the Enterprise:

Captain Pike: Lay in a course for Andorian Space. Warp factor 8.4.
Ensign Goose: I feel the need...
Ensign Goose and Lt. Maverick: (together) ...the need for speed!

There. That took my total all-time post count to an even 900.

Either way, bothers me not all.
I'm not going for the cameos I'm going cause I expect it to be an interesting movie. Cameos are frosting.
