Does anyone know the name of this 70's cop show?

I was talking to a friend today and she was trying to remember the name of this 70's TV cop show. All she could remember if was about a married couple who were both police officers, and the wife is killed. The series focuses on the husband trying to balance his life as a cop along with looking after his kids.

Anyone got any clues?

A website that lists single dad show (is there a site for everything?) has the following shows about single dads who are cops and the wife is dead:

The Cop and the Kid (Charles Durning)
Bronk (Jack Palance)

There was an 80s show called "Heart of the City."

That's the show which was my first thought when I saw the tread. I was freaked out about the attraction I had for Christina Applegate who must have been about 12 when the show was on.

Female police during the 70s were still at the Pepper Anderson, Police Woman development stage. I can't remember a Cop/Mom as the cop duties were almost always undercover in the sex industry. In the 80s we started to see female beat cops and the homicide detectives. Or in the first year of Hunter the vice cop moved over to homicide.

Thank you everyone for your help, I passed the info on to my friend and it was "Heart of the City" that she was trying to remember!
I knew that someone would know it on this board.
Thanks again!:)
