Above average.

I felt very let down by this episode. There was a lot of spectacle in for sure. So much so, that it brought it up to an above average despite serious problems.

I was very let down by the resolution to the cliffhanger. Regeneration? Nah, just healing. The method by which Donna and the TARDIS were rescued was a let down. Don't worry, there's a spare doctor in the hand! I was let down by the overall resolution to the Dalek threat. The answers just sort of came from nowhere. One minute Donna is down, next she's up solving all the problems just by typing fast! Yeah, she got the Doctor's knowledge but it was just too easy for her to type everything in.

I was let down by the Three-Fold man. There were exciting possibilities: future, present, and past Doctors all together. The possibilities were endless. Nah, we got the Tennant Dr back (who I like and that's good) but the human Doctor and Doctor-Donna were a let down.

I know there was more but I'll stop for now while I read the thread. I also didn't like Donna's end story. Having her forget the great, fantastic things she's done was tough to watch. If I want darkness, I'll watch nuBSG. I wasn't expecting a happy ending for her. Shoot, I predicted the memory loss ending, but I don't like it. Maybe they'll revisit it down the road? And just why did the human Doctor have to stay in the other reality? No real reason given there.

Oh, one more thing that bugged me. Donna being the most important person in the universe. It was supposed to be some deep meaningful thing but in reality she was only the most important because she was with the Doctor who gave her the knowledge to defeat the Daleks. It really wasn't Donna. And, I'm saying that as a big Donna fan. That whole thing just fell flat for me.

Sarah Jane, Jack, Martha, and Mickey all seemed wasted in this one.

I'll stop now. There was some good stuff too. But, all in all, I was dissappointed. Above average might be generous.

Mr Awe

Mr. Awe: You just proved my point about the rating system again.

If you were so disappointed by the episode, then why give it an "Above Average?" Or are you saying being disappointed is above the average for Doctor Who

^ You know what enemy would really be appropriate for a Christmas Special - the Yeti!
That would be great! I would love to see the Yeti again!

Suddenly I have visions of the tenth Doctor and Yukon Cornelius battling the Great Intelligence...
:guffaw:

I just watched the episode, and I loved it. There were so many things I wanted to comment on, but I've forgotten them all already. I'll have to come back after I've watched it again.

I must say I am quite surprised by the general mood on the Outpost Gallifrey forums.. I'm beginning to think everyone on there hated the episode.. really odd, as I honestly believe it was top entertainment. I think the massive expectations and hype play a part in this, but still.. it comes as a surpise to me.

I think its a matter of degree. I was dissapointed by Journey's End, but I still enjoyed it, it just wasn't as brilliant as the Stolen Earth. I said last season that the rating system should be wider.

before we all get too sad about the end of the season, dont forget the Doctor Who Prom mini episode, in 3 weeks time.

Well, right. That's what I was referring to with "my point about the rating system:"

I'll give it an Above Average, although I think it's a pointless vote considering how I'm seeing some posters vote. "It was okay...Above Average" or "It was GREAT (except for this and that and another)...Average." This is one of those clear cases where this grading scale just doesn't work.

I prefer my voting scale (which I use for the show polls I do in other forums), although it's admittedly not perfect: Excellent, Very Good, Good, Mediocre, and Terrible.

Just think we could have had Davros for companion in the X-mas special.

Davro's as the backseat driver in the tardis lol.

Davro's- My daleks can man this machine better than you.

Tennant- oh yeah? well can you do this?

*does jig*

Davros- that hurt bro

The what now? I'd not heard about a mini episode

http://www.bbc.co.uk/proms/2008/whatson/2707.shtml#prom13

Broadcast To be recorded for BBC One and Live on BBC Radio 3. Available as audio on demand for the following week.
How am I suppose to forget about this when this information came out yesterday and this is the first I've heard of it?

Still, good news and thanks for the head's up.

I wonder if the returning special guest star is The Fifth Doctor?

Yeah, I knew that. I'm looking forward to it, especially if the rumors are true that
The Cybermen seen in that episode are actually the Mondas Cybermen. Just a rumor, mind you, but I still have my fingers crossed. :D

The Cybermen feature seem to have the Cybus Industries logo on them

Indeed, that was the very first thing I looked for and, alas, it looks like the Cybus Industries logo on their chest.

Yeah, that's OG for you. Nothing is ever good enough and they're all basically nuts. I much prefer my Doctor Who discussions here.

I wasn't questioning your post, rather your language ("don't forget").

And it can't be all that original considering the press release says it features a returning character. ;)

ive been trying to think who it could be, and not alot of people spring to mind, I assume this will set after Journeys End and with all the companions given all there various exits, it seems unlikely it will be any of them.

past Doctors are of course a possibility, K9 would seem to be one as well, but I really dont know, just have to wait & find out. The fanboy in me hopes its the 9th Doctor, but im guess that wont be the case. Elton & Sally Sparrow are also possiblites.

(left go crazy for a moment) [crazy] the 10th Doctor & the 5th Doctor has been done before, where as the Doctor & Jackie hasnt [/crazy]

obviously I am not suggesting that this Proms cutaway is a one off adventure featuring the Doctor & Jackie. (who at the last minute teleported into his TARDIS)
