Doctor Selar

Terok Nor

Commodore
Commodore
Anyone like this character? She was on the Enterprise for the entire 7 years of TNG (according to a deleted scene from All Good Things). Aside from the main cast no other featured crewmember was on board for the entire duration of the series. She was mentioned quite a few times but only appeared in one episode. Apparently she was going to be a love interest for Worf until the actress was cast as K'Ehleyr. Anyone wish she'd returned? Recast maybe?

I wish we'd seen her again but definitely not recast! I wish she'd replaced Crusher in Season 2--it would've been interesting to see how she and Data got along, with very different viewpoints on emotions and human behaviour.

I wouldn't have wanted a recast either but it's likely she never came back because Suzie Plakson became better known as K'Ehleyr. She didn't have the luxury of full prosthetic makeup on her face like Jeffrey Combs did when he alternated Brunt and Weyon on DS9.

Personally though, we know it's make believe and I'd have been fine with her coming back as Selar after playing K'Ehleyr.

Scientifically...

Sex with an emotionless android during Pon Farr?

I'm not only being disgusting, but that's some science that needs to be nailed down for the greater good of Vulcankind.

(It would be more likely that Selar would be in charge of the study, rather than being involved as a contributor/participant. I did say for science. Seriously? The Doctor on Voyager was the first bloke to check to see if Holograms could appease Blood Fever?)

Clearly you've never seen "One Night In Paris":vulcan:

That's how Sarah Silverman described what happened inbetween episodes of Future's End, when they were "sleeping" in the back of her van.

I wish we had seen her. It would have been nice to have seen some more of the medical staff with speaking roles other than just Ogawa.

When they did mention her, it provided a sense of continuity.

I liked her character in the TNG novel, The Eyes of the Beholder.

I love Selar. I wish she had continued as a recurring character after K'Ehlyar. Suzi rocks, she also plays Mrs Q.
I'm a massive fan of New Frontier and she gets some great stories there.
As far as Pon Farr and androids go, I always thought there was a telepathic component to it and really hate the cheap and easy resolution of holodeck sex resolving it. If you don't need a real person, what's the different between an android and a box of sex toys?

What about Lore?

Still an android.

Emotions.

But not expressed electromagnetically by meat.

Why not?

Surely an antenna can be used to broadcast information "technologically" on the same wave length as meat?

Radio-Telepathy.

Was that the one with the cute little blind Andorian girl?

I have to admit that I laugh every time that she accepts Crusher's advice about telling her family to stick it where the sun does not shine - a rare glimpse into Vulcan humour and emotion

Yes, that's the one.

And yes, I do know about the New Frontier novels and I know Selar was a character in them. But I only read the first one.

Radio-Telepathy.

Spock could mind-meld with intelligent machines such as Nomad and V'Ger. And Troi sensed emotions from Data when Lore activated his angry feelings.

I don't know how that could even be possible, but there it is.

I've always wanted to see a Vulcan counselor. I don't know how this would work, but I wanted to see it.
A Vulcan Counselor would actually be a great idea. They spend years, understanding, analysing and controlling emotions, not to mention their intellect and mental discipline, so who better to offer advice to others on emotional and psychological problems? There was that VOY episode where Kim has a crush on a holodeck character and sought out Tuvok's guidance, he shows how effective he is in the role.
