Spoilers Do you wish SPOILER had lived? (S2E1 Brother)

You're saying that if one doesn't take a fantasy about people in spaceships seriously there's no reason to watch it?

Half of Trek's problem, and certainly fandom's, is the solemn importance with which all this stuff is treated.

Saru had a funny moment; Linus didn't.
Wait, you essentially posted awhile back that you thought it was humorous in the trailer.
Just because you didn't laff the second time doesn't take the joke out of it.

"Laugh."

The trailer edit and timing was funny, the scene in the episode wasn't.

Like the other guy said, jokes are harder when you know the punchline. You don't have to pretend there is any more to it than that. The trailer and the show were literally the same take. The only difference in the show was the fact that you had to wait between the "setup" and the "punchline", and it didn't work because you knew it was coming.

I don't think Linux sneezing was supposed to be a killer joke causing audiences to blow burning torrents of cola out their noses and send the unprepared to start rolling around uncontrollably on the floor hyperventilating between laughs and crushing the family cat.

It was just a mildly humorous slice-of-life section on a ship that has been accused at times of not having any (which is of course bullshit. We've seen a Starfleet wartime kegger (in the future.. the solo cups aren't red.. they're see through yellow.. shiny) , mutual toothbrushing, what happens to allergic/snoring cadets, mess hall social dynamics, etc for the first time ever)

Nothing to get hung up about either way.

He's from the Mirror Universe where people aren't evil, but they are all dicks.
That sounds like something from Rick and Morty -- i.e., a universe where everyone is (literally) a dick.

Maybe...like...[burp]...it's like a universe, Morty, where dicks are sitting on furniture made from...[burp]...from people, and the dick's genitals are...like...pizzas or something, Morty.......Wubba lubba dub dub!

Aren't the creators of that show making the next Animated Trek show?
Be Careful what you wish for??

Amusingly, both Landry and Connolly were killed because they didn't listen to the chosen one.

You mean Pike? - as it was Pike's direct orders Connolly disobeyed. ;)

Of course it's not meant to be hilarious, which is why to me it actually came off better in the show than in the trailer (where it seemed to just be a pointless gag). In context, it's showing the difference in attitude between Pike/Burnham and Connolly, a continuing theme from the conversation outside the turbolift. Each of their reactions say something about the characters - Burnham smiles at Linus, the deadpan "bless you" is Pike's dry humor, and Connolly is a humorless asshole looking down at them for it.
