Do you want to see more Time Lords? (spoilers up through current eps.)

Re: Do you want to see more Time Lords? (spoilers up through current e

"Hello, Doctor!"

"Romana! You're alive! But...the Time War...Gallifrey detroyed...All gone...how did you..."

"Umm...I'm a Time Lord. What part of that don't you understand?"

"Yeah, I suppose...I mean, I survived...as did The Master...and some Daleks...and Davros..."

"Let's face it - the Time War was a great idea for a huge, dramatic dividing line between Classic WHO and the new show, and the 'Last Time Lord' stuff was cool for a while, but your Lonely God shtick's getting fucking boring..."

"Wha?..."

"Oh - is your Metafiction Sub-Meson Fandangulator not working? What? You don't have one? Where have you been, dear Doctor?"

"Umm..."

"Anyhoo - must dash! It appears that the author of this post hasn't got a fucking clue how to end it. Something silly will happen, I'm sure...."

"ARRGGHH!! MY LEGS HAVE EXPLODED!"
:guffaw:

Anyways, I can agree on not having Gallifrey return or having a new Gallifrey created, but I do want to see some other Time Lords. Not just Romana, but I would also like to see Susan and Drax again, too, as well as new characters. Hell, as part of my theory that Romana escaped to E-Space, I like to think she took with her Susan, Drax, Leela, Ace, K-9 Marks I & II... ;)

Re: Do you want to see more Time Lords? (spoilers up through current e

Indeed. ITL wins!

The Doctor as the last one is a bit tired. The Master survived, uncounted Daleks survived so there should be a few Time Lords out there somewhere.

Re: Do you want to see more Time Lords? (spoilers up through current e

I'm really not clear on how the Time Lords could even return en masse, given that the Doctor made it clear that he saw -- and caused -- Gallifrey to burn; he watched them all die. And, on top of that, the war is time locked.

Well, he saw that happen to the Dalek too and look at how that turned out! And, at least one other Time Lord survived, the Master. So, it wasn't quite as destructive and locked as the Dr believed.

Well, gosh, two Time Lord survivors instead of one, out of an entire civilization. He sure was off by a lot, wasn't he? ;)

Re: Do you want to see more Time Lords? (spoilers up through current e

Not to mention the fact that The Master ran away from the war, and The Doctor seemingly didn't even know he was resurrected to fight.

Re: Do you want to see more Time Lords? (spoilers up through current e

I've always assumed since Nine said that they had been destroyed and he was the last of his race that they'd be back. Fair enough, the producers haven't rushed into setting that re-set button. But just as the Daleks were back, the Master came back (and back again?) and now we apparently will see another Master in one of the specials, I'm now expecting to see the Timelords too.

Time will tell (pun shamelessly intended).

I thought Dalek Caan essentially broke the time lock when he rescued Davros? And lets face it, it isn't beyond RTD to put an imutable barrier in place then find a way around it is it? Barrier between dimensions, the Doctor and Rose seperated forver...yadda yadda...

Re: Do you want to see more Time Lords? (spoilers up through current e

Sure... if The Moff has a great story to tell that requires the Time Lords.

Otherwise, I'm fine without them.

Re: Do you want to see more Time Lords? (spoilers up through current e

I think I'd like to see the Time Lords return. I enjoyed the whole "Sole survivor" thing for a little while with 9 but I'm totally over it now with 10. I'd like to see some context for the Doctor. I'd like him to be shown in respect of others of his kind; who they are; what they can do, how they live. I don't know whether the producers think it would make him less special or something if we see a whole bunch of Time Lords going about their daily lives, or if we know and see others who have power over him. I'm thinking that they seem to have set the Doctor up as some higher being or superhero who has no equal. After having said that, in the past I've never really enjoyed the Doctor's trips back to Gallifrey for some reason.

Re: Do you want to see more Time Lords? (spoilers up through current e

The Doctor's first two visits to Gallifrey (The War Games and The Deadly Assasin) are wonderful, but after that it slowly goes downhill. The Invasion of Time is still fun, but falls short. The Arc of Infinity, The Five Doctors, and four stories from the Trial of the Time Lord season brings down Gallifrey quite a bit.

Re: Do you want to see more Time Lords? (spoilers up through current e

they didn't go to Gallifrey in Trial... it was held on a space-station...
[/whiny fanboy pedant]

yes, i'd like Time Lords to come back. either more villainous ones like War Chief and the Rani or a heroic one like The Librarian or The Scholar.

Re: Do you want to see more Time Lords? (spoilers up through current e

Quite true. I stand shamefully corrected. But it certinaly felt like The Doctor went back to Gallifrey. :p

Re: Do you want to see more Time Lords? (spoilers up through current e

As much as I enjoyed "The Doctor's Daughter", it should have been a regenerated version of Susan

Actually, it should have been Susan's mum or possibly her aunt. Susan is the Doctor's grandaughter.

Who is to say that Jenny isn't Susan's mum?

All we know about Gallifrey is that the Master, the Doctor and the Daleks all believed it was destroyed, with all the Time Lords on it.

Wouldn't it be very convenient for the Time Lords to have two of their greatest pains in the ass and their greatest enemy believing that?

Re: Do you want to see more Time Lords? (spoilers up through current e

If there are in fact Time Lords surviving as a society, remnants of the Time War, I wonder if they will consider the Doctor to be a mass-murdering criminal instead of a hero.

Good drama to be found there.

um, THE DOCTOR

i rather think he'd know his daughter, the mother of his granddaughter

Who knows? It's been established that Time Lords have DNA, so if Susan turned up on the first doc's path (or, say, on Gallifrey), it should've been possible to establish their kinship.

Even better, since Jenny is technically a clone of the Doctor, her offspring (presumably the product of a timelord-timelord or timelord-human pairing) would have the same amount of genetic information in common with the Doctor as a 'real' daughter, and his or her daughter would be his granddaughter, genetically speaking. So Susan's mother wouldn't be Jenny, it'd be Jenny's daughter.

That's kinda the idea for an episode I have in my head. By some bizarre 1 in a 1,000,000,000,000 fluke, the TARDIS stumbles upon New Gallifrey, populated by a few hundred surviving Time Lords, including Romana. The Doctor learns that New Gallifrey has been here all this time and they all knew about the Doctor surviving but they intentionally conealed their presence because they're afraid that he would lead their enemies right to them. The Doctor is given a choice between reuniting with the other Time Lords and giving up traveling the universe or the Time Lords erasing his memory and sending him on his way. The Doctor, painfully chooses the latter option. But at the last minute, Romana secretly lets the Doctor keep his memories.

Re: Do you want to see more Time Lords? (spoilers up through current e

I'm absolutely in love with this series and have been since Tom Baker. However, this whole Time War, paint the series into a corner and make the Doctor a wandering puddle of loneliness, is starting to wear a bit thin for me. It seems completely illogical to have the Daleks breaking out of the Time Lock whenever the series needs a really bad villain, but for some reason the Time Lords aren't able to do the same. So...you have to be a bad guy on this show to be lucky enough or strong enough to escape the lock...? This makes no sense to me. Something will eventually have to be done within the series to open that plotline back up or else it will stagnate. You can't, as I've said, paint the plot into a corner and then just tip-toe around in said corner and expect the series to stay as fresh and wonderful as it could otherwise be.

Ok--that's my two cents worth! :-)

BTW--howdy from Texas! :rommie:
