Do you want to see more Time Lords? (spoilers up through current eps.)

Re: Do you want to see more Time Lords? (spoilers up through current e

I'd like to see the Time Lords return, but I'd also like the production staff to get over this "lonely god" boner and make the Doctor remember that his race is a bunch of arrogant, omnipotent jackasses. It'd be nice for him to get some perspective.

Re: Do you want to see more Time Lords? (spoilers up through current e

I'm really not clear on how the Time Lords could even return en masse, given that the Doctor made it clear that he saw -- and caused -- Gallifrey to burn; he watched them all die. And, on top of that, the war is time locked.

Well, my reasoning is that if the Doctor is still around, then there could be other Time Lords that were traveling at the time.

Sure -- I can see small populations of Time Lords surviving. I just have trouble picturing a scenario where their entire civilization could be rebuilt (without it coming across as being an incredibly flimsy Big Giant Reset Button, anyway).

He also watched the Daleks burn too, and look how dead they turned out to be. Not to mention the fact that Dalek Caan broke through the time lock, proving that such a feat is not impossible. So really, the precident has already been set for their possible return at some point.

Yeah, but:

1. The entire Dalek civilization has not been rebuilt; even the "new Dalek Empire" seen in "The Stolen Earth"/"Journey's End" was a relatively small population, and

2. That logic requires that we accept that Time Lords reproduce as quickly as Daleks apparently do.

Not to mention the fact that Dalek Caan broke through the time lock, proving that such a feat is not impossible. So really, the precident has already been set for their possible return at some point.

I mean, it's possible, but, again, doesn't that just turn it into a Big Giant Reset Button -- you know, the thing fandom usually hates?

Fair point, but I wasn't really getting at the scope of their "resurrection", but rather I was using it as an example of how quickly things can change to suit the story. The Doctor told us in the same breath that the Daleks and the Time Lords were destroyed, which effectively makes the fates of those two races synonymous with each other. Therefore, it stands to reason that if one race can return, so can the other.

2. That logic requires that we accept that Time Lords reproduce as quickly as Daleks apparently do.

Not necessarily. Maybe the Time Lords anticipated their destruction and used some Time Lord jiggery-pokery to magic themselves off to a safe place. A place they have, as yet, been unwilling or unable to return from.
Maybe, in an effort to out-epic themselves, RTD and DT's finale will involve The Doctor somehow pulling Gallifrey out of the locked Time War and into normal time. Who knows? There are probably a number of different ways it could be done.

Not to mention the fact that Dalek Caan broke through the time lock, proving that such a feat is not impossible. So really, the precident has already been set for their possible return at some point.

I only said it was possible, I didn't say people would like it. ;)

Let's say a Time Lord at some point traveled in time to 2099 Earth. Couldn't the Doctor travel to 2099 Earth and meet this Time Lord? Why can't the Doctor encounter a Time Lord before the Time War?

Re: Do you want to see more Time Lords? (spoilers up through current e

I think you need a poll on this thread. I would love to see the Timelords return, but on a limited basis like the old series. Out of hundreds of hours of Doctor Who the Timelords were only in a handful of episodes and The Doctor was almost always in fear of them and even told people he had helped not to mention his help.

As much as I enjoyed "The Doctor's Daughter", it should have been a regenerated version of Susan who last we saw was out in the Universe, not on Gallifrey. And what about the Rani and all of the other Timelords The Doctor came across in his travels?
If Romana was the President maybe she was able to transport the entire planet of Gallifrey to E-Space where she was stuck for so many years to escape destruction.

I think the Timelords will return, and I think when the Face of Boe said The Doctor was not alone he wasn't just talking about The Master.

If I'm not mistaken this is how the 6th Doctor ran into the 2nd Doctor. From what I got from the old episodes the Timelords didn't leave the homeworld too often except for "the renegades" like The Doctor. The timelords liked to just observe the universe, not interfere unless it suited the Timelords needs, like "Genesis of the Daleks" where I think the Timewar started.

Actually, it should have been Susan's mum or possibly her aunt. Susan is the Doctor's grandaughter.

The impression that I always got was that somehow the Time War actually wiped the Time Lords out of the timeline, so that the Doctor (and the Master and Jenny) are the only survivors by virtue of having come from the original, pre-altered timeline (or, in Jenny's case, originating from within the post-Time War timeline). Ergo, the Doctor can run into himself, but not into other Time Lords.

Except if that was the case then the Treelady from the second episode of series one and Jack wouldn't have know about the time lords and there wouldn't be legends about them, seeing as they would have never existed.

RTD wrote a supplement in a DW magazine saying that "higher races" (those with time travel technology) were capable of detecting changes in the timeline stemming from the Time War, while the "lower races" who lacked such abilities could detect no change.

Hence why the Forest of Cheem had heard of the Time Lords, and why the Humans of the 100100th Century had heard of Daleks, and why the Shadow Proclamation had heard of Time Lords -- and yet to all of them, these creatures were more legend than reality. After all, they knew that they had once existed in alternate timelines, but that doesn't mean that direct personal knowledge of them survived the timeline changes.

Re: Do you want to see more Time Lords? (spoilers up through current e

A would be okay if a small group of Time Lords lived and started a New Galifrey of sorts; so long as they were presented in an interesting and engaging manner.

Re: Do you want to see more Time Lords? (spoilers up through current e

I really would like to see the Time Lords make a comeback, if the Daleks can keep getting destroyed and coming back then there is no reason the Time Lords can't.

Well the doctor on survived because he caused there destruction, basically doing the same thing Rose did by harnessing the powers of the time vortex

Re: Do you want to see more Time Lords? (spoilers up through current e

I think for me, the whole reason The Doctor never visits Rose is because he can't. With the Time Lords back, travel between parallel worlds would probably be possible again.

So? He already left her with a human version of himself to live out her days with. Plus he's always forgetting to look for companions again no matter how close they were to him. Remember Sarah Jane.

Re: Do you want to see more Time Lords? (spoilers up through current e

Forgive the question, but did the Dr. Who movie deal with the Time War? Was the Time War ever depicted or was it an idea that came with the ninth Doctor?

FYI: I'm a bit out of it with Dr. Who lore - I saw all of Tom Baker and a little of Davison, then PBS in the States stopped showing Dr. Who. I missed all of the Doctors between Davison and Eccleston.

the time war is solely a creation of the 2005+ series.

Re: Do you want to see more Time Lords? (spoilers up through current e

"Hello, Doctor!"

"Romana! You're alive! But...the Time War...Gallifrey detroyed...All gone...how did you..."

"Umm...I'm a Time Lord. What part of that don't you understand?"

"Yeah, I suppose...I mean, I survived...as did The Master...and some Daleks...and Davros..."

"Let's face it - the Time War was a great idea for a huge, dramatic dividing line between Classic WHO and the new show, and the 'Last Time Lord' stuff was cool for a while, but your Lonely God shtick's getting fucking boring..."

"Wha?..."

"Oh - is your Metafiction Sub-Meson Fandangulator not working? What? You don't have one? Where have you been, dear Doctor?"

"Umm..."

"Anyhoo - must dash! It appears that the author of this post hasn't got a fucking clue how to end it. Something silly will happen, I'm sure...."

"ARRGGHH!! MY LEGS HAVE EXPLODED!"
