Do You Think You'll Ever Get A Chance To Fly Into Space?

Dayton3

Admiral
Not sure if this goes here or in Science & Technology but it really isn't about technical capabilities.

In recent years, very rich people have been able to get a ride into orbit by paying the Russians 20 million dollars.

And I've heard that in a few years, the Russians are going to offer rides around the moon (no landing) in a modified Soyuz capsule (moon missions is what they were designed for) for 120 million dollars.

Do you think you will ever have a chance to fly into space?

Personally, I think I will.

I believe that in the next 25 years or so, the costs of going into orbit at least will come down a great deal.

And though I would never be able to afford it, I hope to be elected to Congress or a governorship one day, and they already can get free rides in Air Force fighters on occasion for "fact finding" reasons.

I suspect that the opportunity for "fact finding" short hops into orbit will be available eventually.

When I was 15 I thought I would. Now, I greatly doubt it. I still hope, though. Moon colonies need chaplains, right?

People have been thinking this since 1960.

Think again.
Think again, yourself. It is not your job to follow Dayton around in Misc with the attitude. Haven't we discussed this before?

Don't like the thread or OP -- stay out or stay shiny.

The hell? I offered my opinion.

"No".

How's that? Is that better? "No. I do not think I'll ever have a chance to to fly into space. Now, how about I offer everyone a hot towel and a hand job."

Jesus Christ. I disagreed with a guy. Are we not allowed to do that? Space travel is not progressing at the rate to allow Joe Six-Pack to plunk down a couple of hundred dollars to fly into orbit in a couple of decades. As it stands now, there might not be enough money to send astronauts into LEO.

I still hold out hope that I will some day. It'll just hinge on what the cutoff age for old pharts happens to be.

At my age, it isn't going to happen in my lifetime either. And even if it did, I'd be far too old for anyone to consider bringing me along for the ride.

Doing some sub-orbital thing like what Virgin is doing certainly seems possible but nothing more.

No, I don't, besides my thinking that the cost will never come down for enough, as much as it sounds cool, I'm way to claustrophobic to do it.
