Do You Think You'll Ever Get A Chance To Fly Into Space?

Yes, when the Earth is consumed by the sun and my remaining atoms are floating in space.

Isn't it wrong to lie?

Generally yes.

But if one is having to do so to prevent unfair personal attacks, I think the argument can be made that it has a legitimate purpose.

Besides, no one is perfect.
We're not talking about unfair attacks - you're saying that you would LIE and deny extreme statements that you have made on this board! What other moral perversions would you try in order to gain political office?

Not many.

I actually indulge in very few perversions political, moral or otherwise.

Would you admit that you think that the Church of Christ is the one true church described in the New Testament of the Bible? Or would you deny that too?

Yes, I'm quite certain of that.

Sorry to break this to you, but on this site ALONE you have made FAR too many extremist comments and divulged FAR too much personal info for you to have any chance of ever being elected to any important public office.

I can always just deny it.

No more behind the play scrums. Get a room if you want.

Okay - so back to the REAL topic of this thread:
Too bad that more people aren't more optimistic.

You know what we really need is a war that underscores the need for a large scale manned presence in space.

Something with the Chinese or Russians shooting up our satellite systems for example.
How many American lives would you estimate would be lost in such war? Do you think the government should pay the cost of flying their ashes into space?

There is always the possibility of a future conflict costing the lives of fewer Americans than died in Desert Storm.

I would never advocate a war just to promote a manned presence in space.

But if a war should occur for other reasons, I see nothing wrong with trying to get some good out of it.

Well... If I live to be about 80 then I'll die around 2060.

I'm not going to say NO but I wouldn't be surprised if that turned out to be the case.

I think I'll be able to experience an orbital flight for less than $10,000 within my lifetime, which puts it in the price range of an expensive vacation and therefore what I'd consider "mass market". Like Jurassic park would have been.
"Sure, we'll have Coupon Day or something."

This statement:

seems to be directly at odds with this one:

Congratulations on advocating two opposite viewpoints in a single thread. :techman:

You equated analysis with advocacy.

A common problem for many people.

Your posts represent a failure in reasoning on your part. Saying "what we really need" IS advocacy.

While a war might be "needed" to jumpstart a permanent manned presence in space, that doesn't necessarily mean that I advocate a war.

Least of all for that purpose alone.

*shrugs*

You've advocated war for far less noble purposes.

Only for advancement of the United States.

the way I see it, whats good for the United States is good for the world.

So one could say that I only advocate what is good for the world as a whole.

I thinks space travel could happen within our lifetime. All it will take is to point out that a space hotel will make a shitload of money, and it probably would.

But...
what's good for the United States is good for the world.
Oooo, dude, not really. Go and have a look at some of the world (Vietnam comes to mind, and to be fair, some of Europe, maybe some of Africa), and you may find the answer is a little more complicated that that.
