Do you think Kirk was made captain early

I wouldn't mind at all if in the sequel they explain what was so freakin' important out there that there were only seven or eight ships and cadets left to handle Vulcan.

I read the book, and I don't remember that they said anything.

Yep, lets have some Laurentian references in STXII.

As to Kirk.. being promoted to a higher rank because you are a hero and a genius is understandable. Being given command of a starship when you have only a few days (?) experience commanding anything is just ridiculous. Even if 3/4 of the fleet got wiped out in the Laurentian system there would still be admirals you could pull off desk duty to command starships. Admirals with years of experience to draw on.

But as I said elsewhere, I'm over it. On to the next movie!

Well, for me, the 'done the thread to death' thing's new, at least here for me, since I just arrived, so no problem to moi....yes, the argument can be made for it being premature-despite that he did manage something big in saving Earth-with a little help from his new friends-I am not so familiar with the modern military, but, would a fresh recruit be promoted to General, even if he saved an entire nation from some enemy attack? Or a newfound sailor to captain, by averting disaster that would've wiped out an entire fleet? But then, we aren't dealing with real-world enitities, rather, a high-drama, action-adventure(oops, buzz words) film from a series with larger-than-life heroes, who DO GREAT THINGS...who are Shakespearean at itmes in their bearing on screen, so has been compared...true, the new ST production gang could have graduated Kirk along to an eventual captaincy...and the others...if time and budgets and such permitted. It would have made more sense that way. But such wasn't the formula, rather, a quick jump-strat to adventures....I can live with it.

Yep, don't mess with Young Jim. He beat Nero, and he'll beat Khan someday, too...twice. If at a temporary cost.Assuming the Abramsverse dovetails enough with TOS.
