Kirk's rank

That's an interesting thought - modified duty assignment to allow him to recover both emotionally and physically. Teaching philosophy in particular - he can speak of generalities and theories without having to apply them to real world decisions daily.

The only reason the Kelvin Kirk becomes captain is because "it was his destiny." It's the same reason that Luke destroyed the Death Star and became a Jedi, because that was his destiny. To Abrams, sci-fantasy is far more interesting than science fiction, which Star Trek is generally considered to be.

It doesn't matter if "Lt. Kirk" appeared on a screen; it was never once uttered by any character and is therefore not canon. As filmed, Kirk was a cadet who was "given" command of a starship because his dad was a hero and because his dad's pal was looking out for his pal's son.

If Abrams cared enough, he'd have inserted a time jump that allowed for Kirk to serve on a few ships and attain at least the rank of full lieutenant. Prime Kirk rose in the ranks quickly and was a lieutenant aboard the Farragut sometime in the 2250s, which puts him around nineteen or twenty years old. Kelvin Kirk started later but still could have made that rank within a few years. Kirk's ascendancy to captain of the Enterprise is one of the dumbest things in Abrams Trek, which is saying something considering how much dumb stuff there is.

Except Kirk has a destiny in The Undiscovered Country so Abrams was not out of line.

Writers strike meant no alterations. He did care and had to shoot what he had.

I would love such a shot to exist. SF DEBRIS argued similarly and I would welcome it.

You bumped up a thread which had been inactive for months, but did you respond to anything which had been posted earlier?

No, you did not.

Did you present any specific issue as a topic for continuing discussion?

No, you did not.

You ticked off multiple items from a checklist which easily could have been written in 2009, every one of which has been beaten to a quivering pulp for years.

This could have been a blog entry, and not even one worth the time it would take anyone to read. It asks no questions calling for answers and it's so lacking in original thought that it could have been spewed forth by ChatGPT.

It's just robot-regurgitated bits of rants which are too old and dry to be able to grow mold.
