Do you think Dr Korby was having sex with Andrea?

I just caught this episode today, suprisingly how little of it I had caught previously.

When my daughter saw the meal laid out for Kirk and Chapel, she said "Ooooh, nice 'matoes," then "mmmm, nice salad." Raising a Trekkie is fun :D

I always got the impression that he as much as admitted it to Chapel (while staying within network censorship bounds). The Kisss the Capatin/Hit the Captain demo was his way of saying that having sex with Andrea did not constitute cheating because Andrea was a device, like a vibrator.

I'd be more worried about tetanus.

Or getting your wang hung up in the inner wiring.

Peeps:

I don't think Andrea was a real person whose mind was transferred into an android body. I think Chapel says something like, "I don't remember Roger ever mentioning an Andrea," but she does know Dr. Brown, even though he doesn't recognize her at first. So I think Andrea was a fantasy woman that Korby conjured up, or, as Chapel called her, a mechanical geisha!

To be sure, when Christine says that she doesn't remember Roger ever mentioning an Andrea, we could just assume that Roger had a very good reason never to discuss Andrea with Christine. ;)

To answer the title question, and not reading all, Andrea was an android and only performed sexual actions to please her human owner. Androids cannot enjoy sex, clearly. Who was her owner? Korby. Therefore one of her functions would be to have sex. But Korby is an android. So his function is to populate the universe with androids. Sex is unnecessary. So no, right? But wait, korby's every action in the episode is directed toward populating the universe with androids, yet he wastes time and effort talking to Chapel? Why the hell? Gene Roddenberry was a brilliant man, and did not make continuity errors. So tell me. TELL ME, dammit. Korby's hand was android, we saw it. He did not love Andrea, he never made a move. He was all over Christine's every word. When that phaser fired, was it killing an android. His mental processes at the end were mechanical. What was he, dammit? What was he? Was he HALF machine. Whn kirk and Chapelk witnessed him die, what was he? Whose thumb fired that phaser? You remember. You remember the laws of robotics (Asimov). You recall that Kirk and Chapel did not stop him. You recall that Andrea had suspender like bottoms on and the most flawless back you have ever seen. Did korby hold her back with his free hand? Did he enjoy the kiss? I will be right back in 60 min, now where is that DVD? LOL

Andrea was never a human being, any more than Howard Stern's RealDoll produces his radio show.

And KorbyDroid was knockin' the bottom out of that thang.

Perhaps when Korby and Brown turned on the machinery to make androids they had a selection of pre-formed androids and went straight for sex slave.

But if the Old Ones' idea of a pleasant-looking butler was Ruk, what would their default sexbots have looked like?

They catered for all tastes, who says he was the default for any particular type of bot? Maybe a lot of sex-bots ended up at the bottom of that chasm before they came up with Andrea :p

Of course, seeing as how there's Dr Korby and Dr Brown, and only one Andrea, perhaps Ruk was to Dr Brown's taste and Andrea was for Dr Korby only ;)

Andrea says she was built to love him. He was an android too, though. Hm. This is strange.
The question is... did he make her while he was still alive, or was she made by the android version of himself he made to preserve himself later on?

It's pretty clearly established that androids don't eat... so why would they engage in other biologically-driven acts?

I think it's clear that the real Dr. Korby originally built her as a "pleasure-bot" and it's POSSIBLE, though unlikely, that his android duplicate tried to keep that up as a way of pretending he was still the real Dr. Korby.

But that's the point... the entity who we're led to believe is Korby all through the show isn't him at all. Korby is long dead. This is a robot programmed to pretend it's him... and that's all.

By the way, was Andrea's suspender elastic. I did not think it was. But IF it was, would you like to pull it back, near its connection to the pant section and say to her "Andrea, I havea new command. Jump and squeal."

"And now... Droids jumping on TRAMPOLINES!!!"
